The roads are very rough. Start EARLY. Have plenty of time, water, food and gas. The large loop is a half day of driving. Buy the CDW from the rental company, and get a truck/jeep. Let's be honest. This place is undeveloped cactus scrubland, hilly, and full of wild birds, lizards, and goats. It does have some great beaches and scenery, but the roads are dirt, rutted, and possibly muddy. This place is for nature lovers and people who love the outdoors. RENT A TRUCK!!! preferably a 4x4. ok, to be fair, we were there over Thanksgiving, and it was rainy season, so half the park was closed. That having been said, the roads are not roads. they are dirt paths with LOTS of VERY LARGE rocks and puddles (rainy season) and what we in chicago would call potholes, only bigger. You... more
