Best Western Selkirk Arms Hotel

30 Apr 2008

My husband and I have just been on one of our regular trips to Scotland during which we enjoyed a return visit to the Best Western Selkirk Arms Hotel in Kirkcudbright. Since we visited this hotel last year some improvements have taken place under the new management and we were pleased to note that the staff were still the same... more

Kircudbright is a lovely, small town in Galloway with a good range of upmarket shops and art galleries. The Selkirk Arms is in a central but quiet location. Having stayed there two years ago, we were hugely impressed by the improvements that the new owner are implementing. The staff are excellent, Betty at reception and Alex in the bar being... more

Fludha Guest House

4 Apr 2008

Fludha makes an excellent base for exploring the Scottish side of the Solway first because of the superb facilities and second because of its location. Our long weekend was relaxing and enjoyable and has been a constant topic of conversation since we arrived home. Chris and Steve know all about hospitality and a warm welcome and the house itself is... more

The staff really are the key in this hotel, so efficient and friendly. Everone including the owners surpassed our expectations. Lovely room with bathroom to match. Food was really good, breakfast, lunch and dinner! The Hotel had a great atmosphere also, both in bar and restaurant. Will return for sure. more

Have just returned from a weekend in this B&B. We very much appreciated the friendly welcome from the owner, including a tour of her art studio on the top floor. The bedroom is charmingly decorated and furnished in a style reminiscent of the era of its artistic famous former owner (Jessie M King) with the theme extending to the top... more

Stayed here for 2 nights. The hotel itself was easy to find, though not if you rely on the actual postal address!! Which comes up as Castle Douglas. The hotel is actually in a small village called St Johns of Dalry. Its a friendly wee village where the locals all say hi and morning and there are many local characters... more

Fludha Guest House

When I wrote my review of our stay at Fludha in June 2007, I promised that we would return when the house was fully renovated and operational. So, last weekend my wife and I visited Fludha again and were not disappointed. We were given another warm welcome by Christine and Steve, not forgetting Jake and Meg. The accommodation is not... more

I stayed at the Gordon House Hotel while on business in the area. I would definitely recommend it and will stay here again, perhaps I will bring the wife next time. The room was clean, well furnished and comfortable. Breakfast was as good as you will get anywhere, a great start to the day. There is a restaurant, a bar... more

This was the best New Years Eve Celebration that we have ever attended, the whole New Years Eve break from start to finish was fantastic. Douglas McDavid and his partner John Walker did us proud. We have known Douglas from his days as manager of the Cally Palace at Gatehouse of Fleet, as we visit there on a regular basis... more

we stayed in this bed and breakfast for a short weekend break as I was brought up in the area. Although the hotel has apparently changed hands since the last review was written , as it's now run by Ailleen and Rruaridh, I found the accomodation to be just as pleasant. The room we stayed in was large and the... more

Lucky enough to spend a long weekend in one of the newly refurbished double bedrooms. I really liked the flat screen tv and the power shower was fab. The furniture and soft furnishings are very in keeping with the hotel style and are very comfortable. According to the staff they are halfway through an extensive refurbishment programme for all the... more

Staying in the area for business, but looking forward to visiting in the Spring for a long leisurely weekend. Staff very friendly and helpful, quite important as a woman travelling alone. Ate in the Bistro which had a great atmosphere, certainly get the feeling that this is the place to be in town, judging by the number of locals who... more

Title says it all really. My husband, myself and small dog made very welcome on a two day trip to explore my family history beginning of November. It isn't cheap, but you pay for what you get. We stayed in the front right bedroom looking towards the house, super big room, super big views ...... thanks! more

My mother wanted to visit Kirkudbright as it is Scotland's 'Artist Town' to look around the galleries. She was really surprised at how nice the town is, Broughton House (where the artist Hornel lived and worked) is just lovely. And, its just round the corner from the Selkirk Arms which is a total 'gem'. The food is excellent, the rooms... more

My wife and I enjoyed a very pleasant weekend at Fludha and found Steve and Christine to be very nice hosts. Lovely meals and excellent accomodation. It was really spoiled however when we found that we had to pay for new pillowcases as my wife accidently got a small amount of make up on a pillow. They have a never... more

We have just stayed at the hotel as part of a 60th wedding anniversary party. From the moment we arrived the staff were so welcoming, friendly and helpful. The food was beautifully presented and tasted great. There was a good selection of steaks and fish on the menu and the portions were very generous. (sticky toffee pudding to die for)... more
