We took the day trip to Roslyn Chapel and the Borders on the last day of our Edinburgh stay and had a wonderful time. It was fantastic to get out into the countryside and see Roslyn Chapel as well as the Wallace Monument and the ruins of Melrose Abbey. Don't miss the prison exhibit at the castle. US visitors will enjoy seeing early American flags carved by American revolutionary prisoners in the prison doors. Get to the castle at 930 am. Live folk music every night at 9. Get in a little early, get a drink, grab a seat and hang out. This was the most enjoyable pub experience I had in the UK. It is authentic...very few tourists...only good beers. This is the authentic Edinburgh experience because they aren't trying to be anything except what they are. Skip the Royal... more
