We stayed her two evenings as part of a biking trip and had a fantastic time. The three owners are siblings who share their great knowledge of wine, food, french culture willingly and made the stay outstanding. The variety of preserves that are made from flowers and fruits in the garden are amazing and delicious. This is a great spot... more

We have stayed at the Hotel Diderot twice, most recently for 2 nights in April, 2008. We have traveled extensively in France, and the Diderot is one of our favorite hotels. The owners are very welcoming and have created a warm atmosphere in the hotel. The hotel wraps around a courtyard filled with flowering plants and palms, where it is... more

The room was small and smelly...musty! When we inquired as to another room, we received a brusque answer that there were none available. We were also informed that they were after all a 2-star hotel...as if "what do you expect!". Having allergies to mold, we sat outside in the garden at one of the patio tables...only to be informed that... more

I can only add our accolades to the previous reviewers' comments.. The owners' enthusiasm was very apparent in all the litttle touches that combined to make our stay here so enjoyable. We especially appreciated the street map with recommended restaurants marked. We enjoyed the amenities in our suite so much, it was hard to leave to explore the charming town... more

We had never heard of the town of Chinon before this trip. But we were looking for a good location to visit several chateaux and this fit the bill. Not only was the location desirable, but the town itself turned out to be delightful with a beautiful old section. The hotel was quiet and decorated in beautiful antique furniture. The... more

We stayed in 8 different hotels whilst touring around France and this was one of the best, despite being half the price of some of the others. Our rooms in the modern annexe situated behind the older building were comfortable, clean and quiet. Hotel staff were helpful and friendly. more

I loved this hotel! The Hotel Diderot was wonderful. We arrived later than planned - after a day touring the Loire Valley - but the reception we received was warm, efficient and very helpful! We were shown our room, and then got recommendations for several restaurants in different price ranges, all in easy walking distance. (The restaurant was fabulous with... more

Beautiful house with a heated swimming pool set amongst Loire vineyards very close to Chinon. Dot and Dave are lovely people and provided a warm welcome, a taste of French culture and a lovely breakfast of fruits, homemade jams and treats from the boulangerie. Chinon is full of history with narrow cobbled streets stone buildings and a large chateau dominating... more

We booked this hotel through the Logis de France web site and we were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the rooms. The food was good but unfortunately we stayed for 2 nights over a weekend when the oven had broken down so the choice of menus was limited. Overall the hotel was good value for money and situated in... more

The Hotel Diderot is by their own rating a "2 Star" but believe me this hotel is 4 Star all the way. Centrally located in the beautiful French town of Chinon this olde world hotel is delightfully furnished with antiques and comfortable furniture. Our large bedroom had a lovely double bed and heaps of room for our suitcases. The polished... more

Read the other reviews for a better description of the facility. This was great though!! My family and I really enjoyed this as a not so typical meal! It is supposed to be a traditional medievil style meal in a cellar that dates back to the 15 or 16 hundreds. The cost is 18 Euros, but well worth it. The... more

We spent one night here (Jul 3) as part of an EF Tours group. The hotel is right on the Seine River which flows through Chinon. The hotel seems to have been recently remodeled, and the rooms were spacious, by European standards. We had dinner and breakfast at the hotel -- the food was OK+. There is a lovely little... more

Just returned from a two night stay at La Chancellerie during 10 day road trip through France and can highly recommend it for either couples of families with children. The hosts were very accommodating to our party of 5, including two teenage children. Located in Huismes, just outside of Chinon, it's a little difficult to find...so plan your arrival during... more

Hotel Diderot is a physically charming building set in a beautiful and interesting part of France. The ambiance of the hotel is warm, friendly and efficient; the almost unique preserve of the good family hotel where you are treated almost as a member of that family. Chinon is at your doorstep with a wide variety of restaurants, the picturesque river... more

My husband and I love to travel in Europe. This trip was special because we had our daughter and son-in-law with us. We couldn't have stayed in a friendlier, cleaner inn with such a perfect location in the Loire River Valley! The town of Chinon was delightful too- good restaurants and shopping. The wine from this region is delicious also... more

We stayed at this hotel for two nights. Staff were pleasant enough but the hotel had no lifts. In the first room that we were given, the toilet did not work so we waited for 20 miniutes or so while a staff member fiddled with it trying to fix it. He finally gave up and we were transferred to another... more
