Tours is a great town as a "base camp" if you are on a chateaux exploration. An easy train ride from Pairs and the adjacent towns/chateauxs are easy to reach from Tours. Also, you can drop off your rental car at the train station on a Sunday (which is hard to find in some other places, or not an option).... more
