We recently stayed at the Hotel Leonardo da Vinci in Erba, Italy, a small town about 25 minutes from Como. You can also quickly get to beautiful Lake Como and the town of Bellagio from Erba. I'd agree with most of the previous comments on the Castello di Casiglio. The location is a ten or fifteen minute drive from Como, a downside. Against this, it is arguably the most beautiful and sophisticated hotel in which we've stayed. The grounds are lovely, and there is a very large and beautiful pool. Chose this hotel as we wanted to be near Lake Como - it was a bit further away than we expected however this was the last of 3 hotels that we stayed in at the end of a 2 week holiday, and it was by far the best. The whole ambience of the hotel hit us the minute we arrived.... more
