Yes it's under restoration after earthquake, but you still get the full external experience. Only thing you cannot see is the carving on the interior of the different temples. more

Yes, Kraton is low key. But that's the point. The atmosphere is 18th Century. It's like Indonesia's answer to Colonial Williamsburg. Just relax and soak up the atmosphere. And, importantly, don't just do the front entrance as a previous reviewer seems to have. There is a separate entrance on the West side which brings you into the palace precinct proper. more
