Zirka (Star) Hotel

2 of 5 stars
San Jose, CA
16 Sep 2008

Stayed at the Zirka. Was cheap, very. Close to city center. Staff at front desk spoke some English. That's all that's good. Rooms typically tiny. Mine was "large" with two rooms and a bathroom. No AC. Vents in room, but hotel staff said don't work. Large window looking out to street, so bakes in the day. Bathroom shower way too... more

Yunost Hotel

Hotel in terrible condition. Lifts did not function, and I was on the 13th floor. 10 plus contingent of security guards slouched over the sofas in reception area smoking like chimneys!! No one new English at even elementary level. Suite was sparse and bath room was basic even the towels were torn cut offs!! I had no choice with this... more

All the staff are diligent, happy and give good service. Its position, close to the Potemkin steps, is central and within easy walking distance of shops and tourist sites. The rooms are small but very comfortable, clean and well-maintained. The food is excellent. more

After a terrible experience in 2007 I've been convinced to try the hotel again since they've exchanged the complete management and staff. This year I've to say that I enjoyed my stay very much, that the staff was friendly, helpful, professional. I've had a Junior Suite which is of Western Euopean Deluxe Room since, with good bed, balcony, LED Satelite... more

Unfortunately I did not listen to my friend. I wanted to ship a car to Moldova. Odessa seemed to be the closest port. I was advised NOT to ship through Odessa, that I should ship it to Germany and then drive it or have it shipped to Moldova by truck. I wish I had listened. Three weeks after arrival at... more

Stayed many times in the Tsentralnaya. Old, but well-kept. Outstanding location, and reasonable price considering the other hotels. Dine at the Steakhouse on Deribasavskaya Street. more

Zirka (Star) Hotel

What can be recommended? - a hotel website that mixes myth and reality: the hotel does not have constant separate water and electricity supplies. When other businesses in the area were without supplies, so was this hotel - an emergency exit that is a combination of building site and fire hazard: there is no lighting so at the lower floors... more

Hotel Odessa

This hotel looks great from the outside and is in a very prominent position in the harbour. It all looks very new but the standard rooms are distinctly average, the wallpaper is peeling of the walls in the bedroom and the walls are marked. Apart from that the rooms were clean, however, just dreary. The telephones in the rooms sometimes... more

Lermontovskiy Hotel

Absolutely loved this hotel. We were struggling to find somewhere after being double booked at a nearby "novelty" beach hotel and came across Hotel Lermontovsky on the internet. The room was of a really good standard for Eastern Europe and its only a five minute walk to the beach. Its around a 20 minute walk to the centre of Odesa.... more

Zirka (Star) Hotel

Ho(s)tel is very close to the city center, but I think, it´s overpriced, considering Ukrainian environment/prices. I was travelling with parents, so I wanted something "better" and chose double/tourist (with bathroom) for 285 UAH (they do not accept neither USD/EUR nor credit cards). Receptionist spoke very good english, rooms were EXTREMELY small, but for one night OK, bathroom quite clean.... more

Continental Hotel

The Continental in Odessa may be the best place to stay in Odessa. The rooms are well-appointed with air-conditioning and good plumbing. Everything was clean, well-trained and helpful staff (receptionists speak English), small business center with two computers for Internet access (extra charge), elevator, good breakfasts, and excellent location. Pricey for the Ukraine, but I would definitely stay there again.... more

Arcadia Plaza

Was in Odessa for business for 3 days, decided to stay in Arcadia Plaza. Hotel is located in Arcadia (summer resort, a bit outside the city center), has it's owned guarded terytory and looks quite impressive from the outside. Rooms are quite big with air conditioning, TV and huge bath. WIFI works only in the reception and costs 10 USD... more

Black Sea Hotel (Chernoye More)

Nothing that I experienced remotely resembled some of the reviews expressed here The front desk personnel is still a bit rough around the edges (the only reason I am scoring this Above Avwerage - else it would have been Excellent) but the room was in very good shape - no breaks, leaks, dead bugs et al. (Room 710). The view... more

My suite was a single suite which is pretty small. The bed isn't very comfortable nor are the sheets. The bathroom is pretty clean but I noticed some bugs crawling around there. Small bugs. The carpet has not been vacuumed or shampooed in a while. It has a mini bar which is a bunch of nuts, water, soda, and some... more

Black Sea Hotel (Chernoye More)

I've been booked a room in Black Sea Hotel by my Ukranian collegues for my visit in Odessa. I looked at previous reviews, and I was a little afraid.. well, I must say that it is a standard hotel, probably not worth 4 stars, but not different from many others I met visiting old russian countries. Check-in was fast (I... more

Odessa is like Kiev in 2007: only a few hotels in 2 categories: Soviet style (relics from the 60s, 70s,80s), and new hotels of better quality, but not up to Wester European (or american) standards. With business and tourism increasing in Odessa maybe some chains might open properties here (in 2008, Raidssons SAS and Hyatt have opened hotels in Kiev).... more
