“Tour agency cancelled - do not use”

The hostal served its purpose. Whilst it was thoroughly under-whelming, you get what you pay for. The tour agency based at the hotel is one to avoid. Our trip to the mines was cancelled having triple checked with them by email beforehand because of our very tight schedule. We had to move on; very disappointing. The blame for this can... more

Maybe we had bad luck with our room (we tried to swap, but couldn't) - but I found this place to be overpriced and half-finished. The renovation that was supposed to have happened about a year ago or so, never seemed to have been finished. Instead of reading lights in the room, there were wires hanging out of the wall... more

If you get the chance when travelling through Bolivia stop off in Potosi just to do this. Cerro Rico is a mining hill with a murderous history. It was state owned but in the 1980's there civil unrest and the government shut the mine and sacked all the workers. The workers gradually re-opened the mines, working as collectives and re-building... more
