Traveller Reviews on Kaohsiung

Grand Hi-Lai Hotel

30 Dec 2009

We stayed on a club level floor - had a corner room on the 40th floor with two windows and a great view of the harbor. The room was spacious and comfortable - even had a comfortable chair with ottoman and reading lamp. The club lounge could be a bit better - the food/beverage service was mediocre, the decor and... more

Stayed at the Splendor Hotel Kaohsiung from 13 to 15 December 2009. This was the first stop of our two-week trip around Taiwan. The room was spotless, spacious and very well appointed with all the typical amenities you can ask for (in-room safe, LCD TV with many many channels, etc). However, what took our breath away was the view. Being... more

Coz most of the time we were out in the city sightseeing, so basically we juz need a hotel which provides a nice bed and shower. This hotel really fits our need as it is very clean and tidy. The facilities were quite new. There are also free internet access in each room, provided you have got a ethernet cable.... more

If you want to see the nightlife of Kaohsiung, this is probably quite a good base: Wufu Street is one block away from the hotel, and it's only a few minutes walk down to Love River, where there's lots of stalls selling artisanal goods, from freshly spun sugar to freshly-blown glass animals. The hotel is just around the corner from... more

All the 5-star amenities - restaurants, bars, shopping, full service, fitness center, swimming pool, sauna with hot/cold pools. The breakfast buffet is rather large with a mix of Asian and Western. The staff is friendly and mostly knows English, though it is not always great. They are reasonable helpful with things to do, they can direct you to the top... more

I spent one night here in October 09. I was impressed with the check-in staff who were very friendly and efficient. My corner room, ending in 01, was lovely, very spacious and comfortable, with great views and a good sized desk. I arrived at around 2pm, pretty shattered, so settled down for a nap. I just couldn't understand what the... more

Ambassador Hotel Kaohsiung

4 Dec 2009

I'm not quite as impressed as some of the reviewers here, but I found the Ambassador to be a perfectly adequate though slightly dated business hotel. The rooms were slightly larger than average, but could certainly do with a little renovation work, particularly in the bathrooms. The view over the river was quite pleasant. I normally don't eat in hotel... more

it's begining to show it's age. The hotel was very crowded when I was there in Nov. Do expect to queue for breakfast if you are there during peak period. more

This is one of those hotels that is worth going out of your way for. It is amazing to look at from a distance -- looking like a Transformer ready to wade into Kaohsiung Harbour -- and amazing to stay in. It's height (and the height of the guest rooms are the main draw). You get an incredible view from... more

Kaohsiung Chinatrust Hotel

16 Nov 2009

After searching for a room the night before we left for Kaohsiung, we decided upon Chinatrust. Upon arrival, everyone was very friendly and very helpful. Chinatrust is located conveniently next to Yanchengpu MRT station (less than a 5 minute walk). It is also within walking distance to Ai He (Love River). The hotel itself is clean and quiet. We booked... more

Stayed here for a weekend getaway. Property is fairly new, close to the subway, the American Institute, etc. It does not have a pool, but is still a good alternative to the older and stuffier hotels in Kaohsiung. Room was clean and quiet, staff was very kind. The only complaint is that the doorman didn't know the name of the... more

Huahou Hotel

30 Oct 2009

I stayed here for way too long in the Fall of 09 and would urge you to stay away from this hotel. The staff is beyond unprofessional and there are, as the other reviews have stated, much better options for the money. First, concrete reasons why I didn't like this hotel: the lobby is the nicest (but still kind of... more

When compared to equivalent western hotels it is very superior. Free internet, free breakfast, and no tipping save you plenty. Restaurants and service good, as is the quality of the rooms. Cost is about one third of equivalent western hotel with bad attitude often thrown in! more

Stayed 3 nights in this hotel, check-in was smooth and quick. Good: - Room was spacious, with free internet access (ethernet cable). - Bathroom was spacious and complete with bathroom needs. - Being the highest building in the city, the view is there naturally. Bad: - Hotel location is not so convenient, however taxis are always available. - Takes 2... more

Placed in a good position, this hotel is new. Lobby personnel is nice and helpful. Rooms are quite large, for Taiwanese standards, clean and cozy. Internet wired and wireless, works seamlessly. Breakfast with buffet is good, both Asian and Western food available. Price is really good. Recommended. more

Electric tea pot did not work, air conditioning thermostat not available. The comforter was quite heavy, and the room was somewhat warm, so I just could not use the comforter without perspiring. The included breakfast, at best, was mediocre. Located right across the railroad station was a plus, but if I am to return, I'd opt for a better hotel. more

Very clean. Friendly & attentive staff. Great buffet breakfast. Good quality bed linen and a comfortable mattress. Good TV with BBC and CNN. Free internet connection, NOT wireless though. Centrally located across from the railway station, but it is still a very quiet hotel. more
