The drive through the countryside is beautiful. We drove this in winter so it would only be prettier in other seasons. The Showa Daibutsu is impressive. There were also other statues on the ground to view, as well as a temple and several pagodas. We are very glad we made this trip. more

Sukayu Onsen

This place is old. In a good way. We drove up from Tawada-ko and stopped for the onsen only. 500 yen only. The onsen building itself is very high ceilinged - the echoes adding to the experience. The place has a hotel also, but we did not stay there. more

We drove up from Tawada-ko, which took a bit over an hour. The drive was pretty enough, although it was overcast and a little rainy that late October day The ropeway (or, gondola) itself was built some time ago, but like all things in Japan was well maintained and spotlessly clearn.
