I stayed at the New Tagawa Hotel for two nights for business. The rooms are clean and comfortable, but small. Small rooms are common in Japan. The western style breakfast was good. Stayed here for 3 nights with my son. It is an easy walk from the JR (Kokura) station which provides good shinkasen connections, plus you can easily head south to Beppu on the Sonic train.
