Vulcano Lodge

30 Apr 2008

This was our second stay at the Vulcano Lodge in the past 7 months and our 3 night stay was even more wonderful then the first time. The lodge is above the tiny Mayan village of Jaibalito on Lago Atitlan. Terje the owner is an incredible chef, serving delicious 4 course meals each evening. The grounds are just beautiful, a... more

My wife and I and 5 friends just stayed a couple of nights at Casa del Mundo and it was wonderful. The views of Lake Atitlan are spectacular and they can be had from nearly every room at the hotel. Simply excellent. The food was excellent although your choices are dependent upon your meal. The lunch menu (nothing served after... more

you can't beat the views. there are more nooks and crannies here that delight. there are also fascinating things to see which take a little digging. take a walk west of the hotel early in the morning and see subsistence fishing. the women who clean and sort the fish actually wear those beautifully multicolored skirts and blouses as they deal... more

This hotel offers the best overall stay experience I've had in Guatemala with clean, comfortable and hospital accommodations. The food was excellent as well. For those who are not used to climbing or walking short to long distances I'd not recommend this hotel due that it's somewhat remote and requires visitors to trek a bit by boat and foot to... more

We had spent one day in Pana, and felt like getting away from the busy streets. After a short boat trip from Pana we ended up at Vulcano Lodge and the host Terje Maeland who welcomed us. The scenery surrounding the hotel was magnificent, and so was the hotel itself. The room we stayed in was more of a palace,... more

We had a 13 hour day of travel and could not have imagined a better place to finish our day. The meals are exquisite and our host, Terje, was very personable and accomodating. We had a wonderful stay. Myself and the other 5 in my group found the food and service at Vulcano lodge superior to Casa del Mundo (and... more

We had 2 adults and 4 children and had an incredible experience! Took an STA shuttle from the city - about a 2 1/2 hour beautiful ride, though if you get carsick, take some meds. Took a regula boat from Panajachel to the lodge - Q20/person. Got off at the rickety dock and 5 kids under the age of 8... more

Rooms are excellent, kept imacculate with top notch beds and bathrooms. Balcony/terrace with quality hammock chairs also excellent to relax in. Owner a very nice chap to talk to indeed - we did have his meals in the evening also which were great....not to mention ecletic ! Only reservations are that it is, I'm afraid to say, now somewhat overpriced... more

One of the best places we have every stayed! You take the launch/boat out to their dock from Panachel. As you come upon the property you see how amazing it is. Wonderful landscaping, spectacular views. You do have to walk up the path a bit to get to your rooms. It is worth it. When we got to our room,... more

Although I normally like to find new places when return traveling to vacation destinations, I can tell you I will make an exception for the Vulcano Lodge in Jaibalito when returning to Lake Atitlan, Guatemala. Terje and Monica, the hotel owners, have attended to every detail inorder to make the experience wonderful. All the rooms appear to be clean, safe,... more

The Vulcano Lodge in Jaibalito is truly a paradise. Lush flowers all over the grounds, wonderful hammocks on the terraces with beautiful views of Lake Atitlan, a delicious dinner that is prepared nightly with loving care and attention by the host. I was at the lodge only 1 night but it was the highlight of my week in Guatemala. I... more

After doing volunteer work in Antigua for a week, we took the weekend off and went to Lake Atitlan for a break. On the advice of a local, we stayed at Vulcano Lodge for a wonderful weekend. This place is far from the crowds and noise of Guatemala, nestled in the moutains and surrounded by beautiful gardens. The buildings are... more

I adore La Casa Del Mundo! Okay, so it isn't a 5 star hotel in classification but it is an amazing place and one of the best values I have found in my travels. When we arrived by ferry, I actually had a bit of an audible gasp when I saw the hotel on the hillside. We only paid around... more

We planned on spending one night, max two at this bed and breakfast but we quickly stretched it to three. It was everything you hope for in a tropical stay. We had the hottest shower and most beautiful bathroom we saw in 1 month in Guatemala, the most comfortable bed and the best views of the volcanoes surrounding Lake Atitlan,... more

My girlfriend and I were just awestruck, when we arrived in our room at the Casa del Mundo. The hotel was recommended by friends, but we had no idea it was this nice and great. The hotel really has spectacular views of the lake and the volcanoes. Our room was spacious, had a good bathroom and a nice bed. It... more

We have just returned from nine days at the Vulcano Lodge. As artists, the lodge was a fantastic place to paint. Just sitting on our porch I did four paintings of the surroundings. The gardens are spectacular, and the environment that Terje and Monica have created is warm and inviting. There are many comfortable nooks for reading, eating, conversing, and... more

We stayed is this hotel several years ago and it is one of my favorite hotels in the world. It is located next to Lake Atitlan in Guatemala and is a wonderful location. I hesitate in writing this review as I feel I will be setting myself up for disappointment in the future......by not being able to get spaces for my groups in the future. We stayed here at the end of a 3-week trip around Guatemala, fully intending to use it as a base to explore the Atitlan area. However the location was so gorgeous (I think it was Aldous Huxley who said that Lake Atitlan was the most beautiful lake in the world, so who am I to argue) that we just stayed... more

Having never been to Guatemala, I appreciated being able to contact the Volcano Lodge directly through email and since I don't speak spanish (or Norwegian), it was helpful that Terje speaks perfect english.
