La Casa del Mundo Hotel

24 Aug 2008

We arrived for a 3 night stay at Casa del Mundo after an exhilarating 25 min boat ride from Panajachel. Our triple room was small but quaint, with a side view of the lake. Make sure you specify when booking if you want the full panoramic lake view, although our room was a little cheaper (we paid $65 for our... more

We just returned from our trip to Guatemala and the stay at the Vulcano Lodge was outstanding. Matt provided excellent advice along the way and the family style dinner was wonderful. The view and the gardens were beautiful, as was the short boat ride out to the lodge. My family of 5 was very comfortable in an lovely 2 bedroom... more

Casa del Mundo is an absolutely magical place. Hop on a boat taxi to get there (and anywhere else on Lago de Aititlan for that matter) and enjoy the relaxed, friendly, atmosphere. We spent three days in peaceful bliss, going for kayak paddles int he morning, enjoying smoothies for lunch and swimming and sunbathing on the decks in the afternoon.... more

Hotel Casa del Mundo is a gem. It is built into the rock cliffs of Jaibalito - a small village that is approximately 20 -30 minutes from Panajachel by boat. There really isn't anything in Jaibalito, but that adds to the charm and relaxation of this place. The hotel staff is amazingly friendly and helpful. They speak fluent English and... more

After hearing a rave review from a friend of a friend, i convinced my travel partner to stay at this place for a night. We had a few mishaps getting to the hotel- trying to leave from the wrong dock in Pana (there are two), then haggling with the boat drivers over price, meanwhile it started to absolutely pour down... more

My boyfriend and I spent 1 night in their suite (around $70) but after staying in $10 a night hotels in San Pedro, we thought the splurge was worth it. The room was done up in a traditional Mayan style and was surrounded by windows with amazing views of the lake from all angles, and had its own little balcony.... more

I was travelling solo through Guatemala and thought this would be a great place to spend a few more dollars on. It was well worth it. The view is excellent, the property is very attractive. The rooms are most clean and overall staff attention is excellent. Management is as helpful as can be. Meals were good and a good value.... more

Once we got to our room and into the hammock we wanted to stay forever! The view over the lake is glorious and incredibly relaxing. The hotel is built into the cliff face so every room has an amazing view (and a lot of steps!) The room we had was small but very comfortable (there are larger rooms available). Breakfasts... more

This is a magical place. My husband and I spent several days here on our honeymoon and returned at the end of our journey to spend two extra nights. Casa del Mundo is extraordinary! It is perched up on a cliff overlooking Lake Atitlan and has incredible views of the lake. It is simply magical. The rooms are special, each... more

I would never have found this gem if I hadn't been invited to a private party at Ven Aca. By boat, half an hour from Santiago. From Casa Del Mundo in Jaibalito, a five minute walk. A great location right on the lake. There is an inifinity pool and a hot tub for those who wish to swim before or... more

My husband and I stayed at La Casa del Mundo for two nights during our honeymoon and we can't wait to go back! The room was nice and clean and the views are simply breath taking. We had a blast exploring the area and just relaxing by the lake. We also enjoyed talking to the other guest of the hotel... more

We were introduced to the Volcano Lodge by locals in Antigua and it was one of the most memorable parts of our trip. The food is amazing, these were the most delicious meals that we had on our entire trip. Terje prepares the meals himself and they are family style which is great for meeting the other people staying at... more

This was our second stay at the Vulcano Lodge in the past 7 months and our 3 night stay was even more wonderful then the first time. The lodge is above the tiny Mayan village of Jaibalito on Lago Atitlan. Terje the owner is an incredible chef, serving delicious 4 course meals each evening. The grounds are just beautiful, a... more

My wife and I and 5 friends just stayed a couple of nights at Casa del Mundo and it was wonderful. The views of Lake Atitlan are spectacular and they can be had from nearly every room at the hotel. you can't beat the views. there are more nooks and crannies here that delight. there are also fascinating things to see which take a little digging. take a walk west of the hotel early in the morning and see subsistence fishing. the women who clean and sort the fish actually wear those beautifully multicolored skirts and blouses as they deal... more

This hotel offers the best overall stay experience I've had in Guatemala with clean, comfortable and hospital accommodations. The food was excellent as well. For those who are not used to climbing or walking short to long distances I'd not recommend this hotel due that it's somewhat remote and requires visitors to trek a bit by boat and foot to... more

We had spent one day in Pana, and felt like getting away from the busy streets. After a short boat trip from Pana we ended up at Vulcano Lodge and the host Terje Maeland who welcomed us. We had 2 adults and 4 children and had an incredible experience! Took an STA shuttle from the city - about a 2 1/2 hour beautiful ride, though if you get carsick, take some meds. Took a regula boat from Panajachel to the lodge - Q20/person. Got off at the rickety dock and 5 kids under the age of 8... more
