We loved this gorgeous manor house hotel. The public rooms were cozy and inviting, the room was large and comfortable, and the service was great. The place is truly atmospheric with a peat fire burning and a beautiful conservatory bar for relaxing. Dinner and breakfast were above and beyond as well. The only complaint, albeit small, was that as someone... more
Spent four nights during a motoring holiday on the West Coast and found this an excellent base for exploring the area. Our room was front facing and overlooked the wonderful gardens and Ballynakill Bay beyond, and was well worth the extra cost. Unfortunately the room was not very well soundproofed and we did overhear the people next door arguing! We... more
My husband and I took a trip down to Letterfrack for the long weekend. We found Dooneen Lodge on the web and booked it hoping it was nice. We were very pleasantly suprised. The rooms were comfortable and cosy. The owner Patrick was a lovely person, really hospitable, who went out of his way to make our stay special. He... more
One of the best country house hotels I have stayed at in Ireland. Rooms are large and well laid out, food was excellent but the relaxed atmosphere makes this hotel stand out. This is one of the few hotels in Ireland where you get value for money. more
We stayed for 2 nights for my friend's wedding in Letterfrack, I have to say that the DOONEEN LODGE is the best B&B I've been stayed so far. The rooms are extremely clean and beautifully lay out; The breakfast is superb and very nice woodland around the B&B. There are so many nice things about this B&B that I can't... more
Rosleague Manor is a real find, a lovely old style hotel with lots going for it. Our room was great, really spacious and comfortable. Myself and my fiance stayed for a weekend break in May and really enjoyed ourselves. Its perfect for a relaxing break but there's lots to do as well so you wont be bored. The breakfast was... more
My husband, a friend of ours and I were travelling around Ireland for two weeks. I had heard from a friend of mine that we "HAVE to stay in the Old Monastery" and even a nice Irish-woman in Galway said it is a "special place." That being said, we drove up to a quirky place with junk strewn all around... more
I completely endorse the experience of Despondent and Kolo 80 below. I booked a double room for 2 for the night of Sat, the 3rd of May in the Monastery hostel, Letterfrack, as far back as 18th of March. I specifically told the owner we would be checking in between 7-8pm. He replied by email saying this was no problem.... more
My wife and I got married on March 4th at Rosleague Manor. It was an absolute DREAM wedding. We had the entire hotel to ourselves and about 25 family and freinds. Mark Foyle and his staff were absolutely amazing. From the two five course gourmet meals cooked by French house chef Pascal, to the infinite wedding and stay details handled... more
The best part first – this lodge is next door to a pub where traditional sessions are held every weekend. We arrived on Sunday night, just as the musicians started filing in. By the time we showered and changed, the session including traditional dance was in full swing! The atmosphere was warm and welcoming and the music fantastic. Dinner and... more
Dooneen Lodge. September 2007. We have just returned from a 5 night stay at Dooneen Lodge where we were really spoilt by Noreen and Tom. The booking process was prompt and easy and the directions absolutely reliable to reach there. The rooms were en-suite and really homely and comfortable, adequately heated and with coffee and tea making facilities. We were... more
Ca a vraiment ete un bon sejour pour moi a Letterfrack. L auberge etait vraiment calme, tres calme. Quel bonheur de lire son livrre a la chaleur d un petit feu de tourbe pendant que la tempete fait rage au dehors. Hmmmm..... Deliteful I enjoyed it a lot more
We enjoyed our 3 night break at this charming "olde world" hotel. Our large spacious bedroom was a delight with a very comfortable bed and panoramic views across the bay. The ensuite bathroom included a large stand alone bath with an antique yet powerful shower. The hotel is full of antiques and old oil paintings. They adopt a strange policy... more
I was hiking in Connemara (Twelve Bens) with 3 other friends. We organized our trip well in advance. One of the planned point was to stay in the Old Monastery hostel. So, I called the manager 4 weeks before our comming and booked a hostel. I said that we might arrive late afternoon because we would be hiking from Ben... more
This is more of a preview than a review. Telephoned the manager and/or owner and asked if it was Tourist Board approved and he said 'If you're worried about these things you should check into a hotel'. I explained I was only asking and he hung up! Came acroos as a bit of a nutter to be honest. more
We stayed at this wonderful hotel for one night. This hotel is quite unique. The experience is more like a stay at an Edwardian house party than a night in an hotel. All the rooms are different - we were offered a choice! The view across the gardens and river were delightful. Miss Marple would have felt at home! Thats... more
Letterfrack is about as remote a spot as you can get in Ireland. Therefore it is strange to find a hotel as good as Rosleague Manor in this part of the country. All of the rooms are spacious with antique furniture and comfortable beds. The ensuite bathrooms are clean and equally sizeable. The lounge areas are comfortable witout being plush.... more
By lucky chance we booked into this guesthouse last month when planning our weekend in Connemara and we struck gold! The whole weekend was wonderful and our accommodation helped make it so pleasurable. The rooms (we had 2 doubles) were clean, bright and well equipped and the house itself was warm and cheerful. It's set into a wooded hillside and,... more
My husband and I had a marvellous three day break in this wonderful, relaxing and relaxed country house. The food was superb, well served and presented in a striking dining room. I would highly recommend this hotel for those seeking a relaxing break away from it all . The view from the hotel is stunning - a beautiful harbour surrounded... more
