Xakanaxa Camp

5 of 5 stars
Cologne, Germany
22 Nov 2009

Each pitch is alongside the river. We had to book and paid for prior to our arrival, this was done online with The National parks and Wildlife Service. Hot showers and toilets are available and kept very clean (given the fact it is a campsite in the middle of the bush). At night you can see lots of fireflies and... more

Trip Report Safari to Botswana and Mana Pools, Zimbabwe Dates of travel: July 26 to August 6, 2009 “Trip of a lifetime,” seems like a cliché but our recent safari to Botswana and Zimbabwe was truly an adventure of a lifetime. Having been on incredible trips to Alaska and Costa Rica, our group of three families (6 adults, 8 children... more

Stayed in Okuti during our honeymoon. Highlights at the camp were definitely the architecture of the "tents", they really give a special atmosphere and are right on the water edge, so you may have hippos walking around your "tent" at night (no worries, they are on a platform). Also sitting around the fire at night was a great experience. For... more

We spent 4 nights at Chief's Camp. All of the tents are right on the water and we could hear hippos eating as they passed, baboons barking in the night, lions roaring and fruit bats squeaking. There was lots of evidence of elephants having passed through -- they tear up trees and one bull walked right in front of the... more

This was the first time I had been to Africa and the staff at Moremi were absolutely wonderful. They were thoughtful and very warm, we felt like we were taken care of everyday. The food was great and they even brought out special food for my friend who didn't eat red meat. more

My girlfriend and I stayed two nights at Mombo camp. The service and accommodation were excellent. Food was good however not amazing (for this price point). The communal table is great for meeting new people but can be a bit tiring if you don't feel like being a social butterfly every night. I pondered for a long time while planning... more

We stayed at Little Mombo for three nights this August. We had two of the three rooms and enjoyed having the place to ourselves. Nat, the camp manager, was fantastic and instantly made us feel like part of the Little Mombo family. The setting is spectacular and the accommodations are first class. We were reluctant to spend the money but... more

Having just returned from our second stay at Mombo and our 4th Southern African safari I have to say Mombo is the best there is. Mombo is located on Chiefs Island in the Okavanga where wildlife is plentiful - had great sightings of leopard, lion, elephants, the last remaing wild dog and hundreds of zebra, giraffe, impala etc. The camp... more

Camp Moremi has a wonderful, attentive staff. The rooms are lovely, a tent with all of the amenities on a raised teak platform. The bathroom is very nice except that it is about 3 feet from the bedroom.across the platform At night when it is dark, that is a little scary. The food was very good. The location is great,... more

Chief's Camp is a luxurious lodge lead by Sanctuary Retreats. It is settled in Chief's Island in the middle of Okavango Delta in Botswana. It has 8 wonderful semi tented cottages, very huge both in the bedroom area and in the bathroom. This one has also an outside shower. The main lodge looks on the waters of Okavango Delta and... more

Chief's Camp is set in what is called the "predator capital" of Botswana, and it delivers in all respects. I spent three nights at Chief's in early August, and the experience was absolutely first rate. I had been at three other camps ( Jao in Botswana and Tena Tena and Kulefu in Zambia) where we did game drives, and the... more

Our family of four with two teenagers spent three nights at Vumbura Plains Camp on our three week safari to Southern Africa. We had a terrific safari experience at this camp. The variety and concentration of wildlife is excellent, and each safari drive was a new adventure. It was wonderful to see groups of large mammals roaming around together. We... more

We came here mainly for the Elephant activity, which is a wonderful opportunity to interact with three elephants trained by a transplant from the States. However, our stay at Stanley's wasn't that great, especially considering that the other camps we stayed at were considerably cheaper (~$200/person/night), had similar quality accommodations, and much better guides and game viewing. The game around... more

Little Mombo was the last stop on our recent safari/diving trip to Southern Africa. On arrival from Kings Pool Camp to Little Mombo, we were greeted by several warthogs beside the runway. From that point on the Mombo experience was in many ways overwhelming. Absolutely nothing was too much for Nat, the Little Mombo manager to arrange. Aside from seeing... more

My wife and I, for our 80th year, traveled to Botswana with two daughters, their husbands and two grandchildren. The first evening game drive was spectacular. Dinner was glorious. We wondered why we had been booked for only two nights before we went on to Savute and Shinde and understand that each camp had different terrain, as well as services... more
