We stayed for Mardi Gras Day and found everything to be in good order. I figure that's the hardest day of the year to keep things running smoothly and I found this place to be fine. It was reasonably clean and comfortable. I have no complaints. more

There is a hurricane warning in effect for Jamaica and a hurricane watch for the Cayman Islands as Tropical Storm Gustav moves westward. The storm is expected to take a northwest turn, hitting Jamaica sometime Thursday and then the Caymans on Friday. Forecasters predict that Gustav will then strengthen to a hurricane before striking the U.S. somewhere on the Gulf Coast between Florida and Texas.

This is the place to stop for lunch if you've been to Marc Savoy's music store for the Saturday morning jam session. (They'll probably be able to give you directions, but you can see Mathilda's just off highway 190.) I have a friend that, when someone mentions Mathilda's, starts salivating. It _is_ pretty good. They specialize in BBQ and the... more

We were there for a jam session on the Saturday before Mardi Gras. The "band" had accordian, 10 or 12 fiddlers, many guitars, a dulcimer, triangles, spoons, and Marc Savoy's vocals. If it could be any better, it's hard to know how it would happen. This was the Cajun equivalent of a YoYo Ma concert! Worth the 800 mile drive... more

On Saturday mornings, the shop fills with local Cajun musicians, including members of the Savoy family. We heard old-time fiddle, banjo, piano and (even) triangle players. There were spectators of all ages, mostly from western Louisiana. No charge, but you'll probably be inspired to buy a Savoy CD. The warm welcome here is quite genuine. While there look at the... more
