Traveller Reviews on Southwest Harbor

Cranberry Hill Inn

5 of 5 stars
Delaware
24 Aug 2008

This is a charming little B&B with a nice view of the harbor. Our room (Harbor View) was clean and spacious, and I loved the bathroom with it's open skylight. The flowers surrounding the property were particularly pretty. Patty is a great cook and serves a wonderful breakfast, and was very helpful in suggesting locations to visit. We will definitely... more

The Claremont Hotel

4 of 5 stars
Westport, Ct
21 Aug 2008

We have been coming to the Claremont for fifteen years. Over the years we appreciate more and more how rare it is to find a lovely historic family owned hotel. The Claremont is indeed old fashioned. Reservations are made without email and by check, croquet courses are set up on the lawn; there is no "business center" and just one... more

Little Notch Pizzeria

21 Aug 2008

our expectations for ordering take-out pizza from a small-town bakery in Maine were not particularly high - as long as it wasn't terrible, we would have been satisfied. but Little Notch turned out to be a pleasant surprise. their wood-fired pizzas were quite good. the crust was thin and crisp, and the toppings were generous. in fact, the pizzas were... more

DE Muro's Top of The Hill

21 Aug 2008

We arrived for dinner at DeMuros without reservations, at 8:45 p.m. after having spent 4 hours on a whale watching expedition out of Bar Harbor. Most restaurants in the Southwest Harbor area stop serving around 8:30 to 9, so we were worried that we might be too late. But we had no reason to fear. DeMuro's dished up a delicious,... more

XYZ Restaurant

21 Aug 2008

All the locals in Southwest Harbor rave about XYZ, so we made reservations for dinner. The food was OK - no complaints there. But the service was slipshod; the margaritas were way overpriced; and the owner was perhaps the rudest person we met on the entire 10 day vacation. Bottom line: Unless you are desperate for Mexican food (and the... more

Beal's Lobster Pier

21 Aug 2008

We'd read the somewhat lackluster reviews for Beals on this site, but since it was just a block down the street from the inn we were staying in, we decided to give it a try for lunch our first day in Southwest Harbor. What a mistake. Maybe we hit it on a bad day, but it was easily the worst... more

Sips

21 Aug 2008

My wife, teenaged son and I ate dinner at Sips twice during a recent vacation in Maine. It's a nice change of pace from lobster pounds. We had risotto (very nice) and fondue (also very nice) and scallops wrapped in bacon (terrific). The food is good; the wine and beer selections are extensive; and the service is great. Feels like... more

Harbour Cottage Inn

21 Aug 2008

My wife, son and I stayed at Harbour Cottage Inn for seven nights during our vacation at Acadia National Park. The inn is spotless; the rooms are lovely; the staff is friendly; and the breakfasts on the porch were delicious. We especially liked the little conveniences like the butler's pantry where Don and Javier keep wine glasses, coffee mugs, a... more

My girlfriend and I spent a week at Pier One at the beginning of August. We stayed in the Fok Sul suite, and upon our arrival, we knew we had made the right choice. The room was very comfy and cozy. The kitchen was well equipped and the deck was the place for many an evening cocktail as well as... more

What a wonderful surprise to find this great inn. We shared with friends one of the cottages and enjoyed every moment of our stay. Very nice floor plan to accommodate 2 couples, updated bathroom and kitchen. I am a not a fan of the" rustic maritime design", therefore I appreciated the tastefully decorated rooms. Calming pastels( Martha Stewar's style) with... more

Harbor View Motel And Cottages

20 Aug 2008

My wife and I travel to Southwest Harbor regularly and enjoy it's "quiet side" atmosphere to that of Bar Harbor. While we have stayed many times, we have decided that the rooms on the second floor of the main building are the best (footnote: we have never stayed in a "cottage" there). The second floor rooms have both a sleeping... more

Southwest Harbor, ME:Cranberry Hill Inn:"Thoroughly Enjoyable" Dates:July 30-Aug 2, 2008 We just returned from a 4 day stay at the Cranberry Hill Inn. A truly charming and comfortable place overlooking scenic Southwest Harbor on Mount Desert Island, Maine. The room was comfortable, clean and well appointed with a beautiful view of the harbor. Our host, Patty, serves a full breakfast... more

If you're not in a particular hurry and want good creative food as well as the "good old standards" I don't think you would be disappointed. Not quite the hustle and touristy feel of Bar Harbor was nice as well. I bit expensive, but certainly in line with everything else in the Acadia area. more

Sips

There is something good about a place where you can either run up a bill when you are really hungry, but also where you are offered the chance to eat more lightly and more economically if you desire. Sips, a casual storefront which offers good breakfasts, lunches and dinners, offers half -portions of both food and wine at lunch and... more

Kingsleigh Inn 1904

18 Aug 2008

My husband and I had a wonderful stay at the Kingsleigh. Dana's breakfasts were amazing, 2 course affairs, sometimes sweet and sometimes savory. We were well fueled for our hiking and kayaking activities. There are always homebaked cookies in the parlor in the afternoon, and decanters of port in each room. In addition to the wonderful breakfasts and baked good,... more

I spend my summer near Southwest Harbor. I am not a dinner theatre cabaret person and went because my husband insisted last year that we go. He loves broadway showtunes. I had a marvelous experience last year and have been back twice this year. They change the show three times during the summer. This place is about two things food... more

Seawall Motel

17 Aug 2008

This place is so great. It literally is across the street from the ocean. The owners are very friendly and accommodating. The area is tranquil and beautiful. I didn't think such unspoiled natural areas existed any more. Acadia is a breath-taking place, and the Seawall Motel is a wonderful base from which to experience it. When the owners say, on... more

Maine State Sea Kayak

The decision to go with Maine State Sea Kayak was made because they were on the quieter and more protected side of the island. It was a great decision. Jane Pottgether was our guide and we couldn't have requested any better. She is very knowledgeable about the island and were to see the wildlife. As if on cue from her... more

We stayed at this B&B for 4 nights recently. The food was wonderful and the hosts very friendly and accommodating. The room was comfortable and had a lovely view of the harbor. Jennifer had a freshly baked goodie every afternoon and a beautiful gourmet breakfast every morning. This was a great location for visiting Acadia National Park without the traffic... more

We arrived on time for our reservation and were told the table ahead of us had asked for their check. We had a drink at the bar. The cocktails were good. About twenty five minutes later the hostess, very gracious and apologetic, told us she had forgotten us, and that our table was ready. Okay, no big deal, we were... more
