Whistle

We stopped for lunch en route from Boise to the Oregon coast, and happened upon this little oasis in the desert. Although the appearance is Old West, the food is fresh and varied. I had a beautiful salad with fresh greens and fruit, others had burgers and soup. All 4 in our party were happy with their meal. The service... more

We ordered the chuck steak. They give you a soup, a salad and a baked potato (I don't remember if you can have french fries). At the end you ave a free dessert. If you are not a great eater you can share everything! more

The room was great (king room), really quite and clean. The staff was really useful and nice. Near the motel there is a wonderful steakhouse (Meat Hook Steakhouse, read my review) more

What a gem of a B&B. Everything done just right. Lovely grounds, quiet, historic home, quaint, decor not too 'girly' (which scores points with the husband). We were on our way further east to raft the Owahyee River and stopped here for a night. Honestly, I wish we could have stayed another night. (We ended up bagging the raft trip... more

Burns is a small town, mostly Pizza and Mexican. Went to this steakhouse and had one of the best New York steaks I have ever had. Turns out the folks running the restaurant also raise and supply the beef! Small but very reasonable wine list. This is a nice family run, family friendly place. A great find! more

Crystal Crane Hot Springs Resort is kind of a blast from the past. It looks like it would be right about at home in 1930, back when road trips were a serious endeavor. Located in the middle of nowhere, Crystal Crane consists of a small hotel, a large community room with satellite TV and internet-ready computers, and lots of books... more

Clean, well maintained property. Very friendly and helpful managers. Major downsides though, I have never slept on such a hard mattress. It was like sleeping on a mat on the floor, The walls were thin too...we could hear conversations in the next roon. So, while the price is right and the motel has much to conmend about it, we won't... more

We have stayed here and at the nearby Frenchglen Hote. We prefer the Frenchglen by a very small margin but this place is wonderful, too. Diamond Oregon is in the middle of nowhere, near the Maheur Wildlife Refuge and Steen Mountains. It is a lovely place. Rooms were clean and comfortable. Dinner was very good, and the complimentary continental breakfast... more

Burns is pretty much the middle of nowhere in Southeast Oregon, but the Meat Hook is quite a find. We stopped for lunch on a trip up 395, had a wonderful cheeseburger with fixin's from a fixin's bar. The beef was very flavorful and quite substantial. My wife and I really could have shared one burger. For lunch this was... more

I have just returned from a tour of SE Oregon, and spent a night at the Hotel Diamond, in tiny Diamond Oregon (population 5). The Hotel Diamond is the "prettier sister" to the Frenchglen Hotel , where I stayed the previous night--sisters in that they hail from the same era, and that they are the only accomodations for miles and... more

We couldn't believe our luck. This little gem in the middle of Southern Oregon is just perfect. Having owned a top inn for years we are very picky--and this place simply got everything right. Cleanliness, decor, food, grounds--it wasa great place to stay. more

We stop in Burns, Oregon as about the only place to stay on a drive between Reno and Washington State where we live. It's not exactly a swinging place and until recently the best place to eat was a clean and adequate but unexciting diner. Tonight we found the Meat Hook Steakhouse, open about a year, they told us. Great... more

We had a very pleasant stay at the Best Inn. The gal at the front desk was helpful and knew just what kind of rooms we needed. The pool was clean, warm and not busy. We rented two rooms because our family is large and they both were roomy, clean and comfortable at a very reasonable price. We only used... more

We stopped the night while driving through Burns and were pleasantly surprised with the Days Inn there. The place was immaculate and the outdoor pool was as clean as I have ever seen any pool. The included breakfast was above average. All in all our expectations weren’t very high: but this hotel exceeded them nevertheless and I would recommend a... more

My husband and I just got back from a whirlwind geological tour of Central Oregon. It is not easy to find comfortable accomodations in this sparsely populated area. But we found a gem when we booked a night at Sage Country Inn, a B & B in Burns Oregon. Thie B & B is in an old victorian house that... more

The online booking web sites for this motel clearly state that the motel has bus and trailer parking. On a cross country move, we were traveling with an SUV dragging a UHaul trailer, and our cat was with us. We chose this hotel because it is one of the only options in Burns, but also because it offered pet-friendly rooms... more

I arrived in Burns on a snowy Saturday night, figuring that continuing my northbound trek would introduce me to more snow than I wanted to contend with. My AAA Tourbook suggested choosing this place or the Days Inn. I wonder if this was the wiser choice. The friendly lady at the front desk gave me a good AAA rate of... more

This restored old hotel brings you back in time and lets you escape from reality during your visit. The hosts treat you like royalty and assist you in every need.
