The landscape around the Pousada is like something out of a dream. From the log cabin the view over the mountain surroundings comes right into your room. Stayed here for 2 nights as part of a walking holiday in April 2007. Friendly enough staff but hotel is dark and seems jaded. No doubt the biggest advantage of the Pousada is its amazing location, with superb views of the valley. There's a couple of lovely "levada walks" and more demanding trails starting nearby (though a car is still useful to get there), so if you're planning a walking holiday this is a perfect base. This is a delightful place to stay during a tour of the island, or as a base for walking. There are a few rooms in the main building that houses the restaurant and bar, but it is really nice to stay in one of the rooms in the "log cabin" annexe and wake up to a view of the mountains.... more
