Lazy Lagoon

My husband and I stayed here for 5 nights the 3rd week of June, (so review is well overdue!), after being on safari in Selous. It took about 1hr 40mins by car to reach the Lazy Lagoon from Dar Es Salaam airport and the last leg is by small boat, (you'll need to remove ur shoes!) but it was well... more

We had a great time at the Traveller's Lodge. The owners and staff were friendly and spoke English. The grounds were perfectly maintained and the restaurant and bar were comfortable. We loved the food - especially the prawn spaghetti. We were a little disappointed at first because our beach bungalow wasn't directly on the beach, but it turned out to... more

I tried, I really tried, to like this hotel -- since I was in Bagamoyo for work and they booked me here -- but I have to say I hated it. I've been trying to figure out why. Basically it is a mid-level Holiday Inn type place stuck in the middle of Tanzania. The property is long and narrow, and... more

Lazy Lagoon

This was the last stop on our honeymoon and was the perfect place to relax in beautiful surroundings after time on safari and exploring Zanzibar. The drive up from Dar takes roughly 90 mins (and is pretty interesting if you want to see a side of Tanzania that you wouldn't on safari or in touristy hotels), then there is a... more

I have heard about the island in the middle of sea from husband that works in Selous. Everytime he is visiting Lazy, he would phone me and tell me he is in paradise. Time to see for myself eventually happened. On a Wednesday morning we arrive at the collection point for Lazy Lagoon's boat to pick us up. A couple... more

Wow, an hour north of Dar Es Salaam, 2 km offshore in the Zanzibar Channel lies the heavenly lodge named Lazy Lagoon. Located on its own private island in crystal blue waters the lodge is a beautiful and traditional structure in keeping with the paradise feel of the island. The hospitality and service is second to none with a welcoming... more

One of the better priced options in Bagamoyo, a small town with charm but little infrastructure. The rate was about $50 a night for a double room with hot water, A/C and breakfast. Partway through our stay, problems with water pressure necessitated a move to another room, a much larger king-size that was more like a suite, with a nicer... more

Room rates have rocketed in the past year, I suspect due in part to their catering to business and conference (i.e. expense budget) clientele. (Friends paid $75 for a luxury room in 10/07; our mid-level room was $135 in 1/08.) Also, they do NOT take credit cards. The room wouldn't have been worth it even at the $75 rate. Frankly,... more
