This was the most interesting castle we visited. Ok, we are HUGE Monty Python fans but it also happens to be well maintained. The setting is idyllic and the photo ops are incredible if you want to reinact The Holy Grail film. They have a "head phone" tour narrorated by Terry Gilliam and it is the best tour you could... During our Scotland tour in April 2012 we visited a few castles - mainly the well known ones - and as a Monty Python fan it was of course a must to go there. BUT beside that aspect, THIS castle is an utterly authentic place in a very good shape. Maybe as a positive aspect, that there is no mass... More

Narrated by Terry Jones of Monty Python fame, the tour of Doune is both comically entertaining and historically fascinating. At £5 for an adult (or in my case free as a member!) it represents great value. In case you are unaware, Monty Python's Holy Grail was filmed here. More

We had so much fun here. I personally loved it since it is an authentic castle and there were so many rooms to explore. My husband and friends loved it since there was so much Monty Python swag in the gift shop. LOL You are able to go all the way up to the top and stand on the roof... More

A nice little castle with its own history, but it is the Monty Python link that sets it apart from other castles. The Terry Jones audio was educational and amusing, with sound bites from the film. Its also worth a wander round the grounds to see the local flora and fauna. Definitely worth a visit. More

Despite only living 45 mins away I had never visited this marvellous castle before! It is very well preserved and larger than I imagined it to be, with loads of windy staircases and pokey rooms to explore. It also have lovely grounds near the river where you are able to spot lots of birdlife and even salmon jumping. It's a... More

Maybe not the best castle in Scotland to visit but certainly the funniest. A must if you're a Python fan. More
