We were there on a hot, humid day in May. There were few visitors - which made for a peaceful half day. Be sure to visit the spring, and the animist rock carvings at the top, which pre-date the Khmer Monument. The whole complex would have been truly splendid when it was built. More

If you are looking to find a peaceful way to see an ancient Hindu temple in the midst of early restoration this is the place to go. The Indian government is providing funds to restore this location but as it is it gives you insight into how Angkor must have been fifty years ago. Most importantly if you want to... More

The newly opened visitors center and the option to go the first 500m by golf kart make a good start of a visit. Always start your visit at 8am when it opens. It gets very hot later on. A visit to Wat Phou is different from Angkor Wat as it is built on the slope of a mountain. So quite... More

We went to Wat Phu twice, one during the day. It is beautiful and really interesting. Don't forget to find the elephant rock (confusingly there are two, one elephant carved into the mountain side with a big buddah foot and the main one which is a big round rock carved into an elephant!) and the crocodile rock. Really enjoyed wandering... More

Not crowded with tourists, new electric cars to take visitors ot the site (as opposed to walking the 1.5 kms there the last time I visited!), large area to explre, great view from the hilltop. If one has mobility problems you should be aware that there are several series of steep stone steps up to the top. More

We cycled through Champasak to Wat Phu, the ruins of an 11th century Khmer temple complex We were given umbrellas to shield us from the merciless heat as we walked the grounds. Bring water, there are no concessions here. You will find endless photo ops! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vat_Phou More

A fantastic place to visit with few tourists and a wonderful atmosphere. A great view from the top as well. I would definitely recommend going either early in the morning or late afternoon as i went at midday and fried. More

Wat Phu was just spectacular, after visiting angkor wat last year we were very excited to be visiting Wat Phu, the temple was amazing and we were fortunate the day we went there was a large group of student monks visiting also, that made our experience even better, fabulous photos and such an interesting place, dating back to the 5th... Wonderful location. We gave it the high rating despite the fact that the site was covered in garbage the day we visited. The wat Phu festival had been on for the preceeding three days and as a result rubbish was everywhere. Teams of cleaner were in the process of cleaning the site during our visit and no doubt by the... More
