is what is was to be standing on that Ridge in the footsteps of our forefathers. A must for any Canadian. We took two of our children through the Sommes, up into Belgium and of course Vimy along the war memorials to teach them about their heritage and the sacrifices made so they could have the life they are living... I'd hope that everyone in Canada could have a chance to visit this memorial. The monument and the location are breathtaking. The presentation and the story of the circumstances are enthralling. If you could only go to one destination in Europe, this should be the one. The surrounding areas are very well kept and the locals are friendly and welcoming. More

Lovely memorial, plus lots of preserved trenches, a visitors centre (and loos). Some areas still preserved and fenced off with landmines from the war. Suitable for wheelchairs as paths around trenches decent and ramp to centre. More

Make sure you find the time to take a look at this stunning memorial if you are visiting the Somme/ Flanders area. The monument itself is breathtaking, as is its position on the top of Vimy Ridge. When you arrive, go straight to the visitor centre and book a tour (free) of the underground tunnels and trenches. The guides -... More

The concreted sandbags give an idea of how close the lines were, but no idea of the reality of war. The tunnels for the mines - similar More
