Do get up the steps and strike the bell as we do. Nicest landscape, overwhelming beauty. You can finish your stay visiting Bermeo, a fisherman´s village very close to this place.

It's a unique place, although you have to be ready to climb all the stairs! Still, it's worth it!

I live near San Juan de Gaztelugatxe and will try to keep off from the mistakes of some reviews.
There was a beautiful road from Bermeo to Bakio but now the local government is improving it but making uglier.
Near Bakio and restaurant “Eneperi Jatexea” (this restaurant is also very good) there is a deviation to Gaztelugatxe.

Visted here yesterday on October 19, 2011. What a lively drive to get there! All mountainous, twisty, curving roads. Found the spot, and despite some signs that seemed to allow only residents, we drove down the narrow, one-lane road to the base.
Once there, we learned the reason for the signs: no driving allowed. Apparently you have to park far...
