- Ian M7 contributionsA great dayWe had a very enjoyable visit to the CPRR this Saturday. The staff were very welcoming and the whole day was professionally run. We particularly liked the fact that diesels are being run more often at the moment. Also we are very pleased to see the whole Covid pre-book experience has been scaled back. So much better just to turn up, buy a ticket and have the freedom to enjoy the day, full marks for turning the clock back to 2019 where it belongs. Would definitely recommend. We have returned to variable seats again, so much easier for everyone too. The railway is loving the return of passengers, it makes what we labour on all the more worthwhile. Thank you for supporting us. - Joshua ENewport, United Kingdom21 contributionsExceptional Cream Tea experienceWe booked the Classic Cream Tea experience a few months in advance, 5 of us spilt over 2 tables. The seats were reserved. The quality of the cream tea was exceptional, some of the best scones any of us have ever had. The coffee was really tasty too, another passenger asked where they had got it from. The crockery was replica GWR which added to the atmosphere. It was well worth the extra £11 each per person. The ride is good, passing various sights of different kinds of animals, would be ideal for small children. We also travelled on the diesel service before the steam cream tea, which allowed more views of the line seen from sitting behind the driver. The trains were both very clean. It was a lovely family afternoon out and would recommend to anybody. All the volunteers were friendly and gave good service. Large free car park.Thank you. Did you notice the GWR crockery was all aligned? We use real Cornish Clotted Cream, which we have shipped up on drry ice, it tastes the best and specially baked scones. You must have travelled on the Diesel unit, which we call the Bubble, which has the best views of the countryside. It is identical to the one used in Midsummers Murders which is under repair. We have visitors every week from Germany, Belgium and Holland to see the locations used in filming. - Tony D1 contributionBrilliant afternoon.Brilliant afternoon. We were booked on to a steam train plus cream tea, 58 of us. We were very early so as to see the engine and take photo`s etc and the staff were smiley and helpful. Excellent station facilities, shop, cafe, toilets, seating. The whole process from booking, to the trip itself was organisd by an amazing group of volunteers. Replies to my frequent questions were quick and informative. Lots of technical info for those who needed it. Plenty of tea and coffee, with our cream tea which was excellent. I Highly recommend this and know that several of my members are planning a return trip with family. Nice comfortable trains with interesting traction edging classic Chilterns countryside, attractive at any time of the year. In any organisation though, it's the people who make it and this railway has got some great volunteers. Back to station for a cream tea on board for Seniors day. Lovely homemade scone with cream and jam and steaming cup of tea or coffee. All volunteers were cheerful and friendly and keen to talk about the railway. The ride although short was absolutely lovely. Thoroughly enjoyed the day.Thank you, we try hard to make sure everyone has a good trip, regardless of the British Weather. Today was rather pleasant. - EmJoBoHigh Wycombe, United Kingdom63 contributionsWonderful trip - would highly recommend steam train with sparkling afternoon teaVisited with my older children (30 & 28) as the trip was originally for myself and my what is now my late husband. We did it in his memory. First off, the customer service was excellent in changing the booking to accommodate me under the sad circumstances. The day itself was brilliant. The train was great and you really felt like you’d stepped back in time. All the volunteer workers were so helpful and knowledgeable on the journey. Felt really spoilt and nothing was too much trouble. The afternoon tea with Prosecco was delicious and very filling. Delicious sandwiches and cakes. We did the return to Princes Risborough and back and it took about an hour, which was just enough time to eat. There’s a lovely little souvenir shop to buy a keepsake from the visit. We were really lucky with the weather so the scenery on route was fabulous. Would highly recommend going on this trip and having the afternoon tea treat.Thank you and now you have made me hungry too! Glad it was a rewarding day, the Stewards do their best to make sure everyone has a great trip and our wonderful drivers coax the old engines to give their best.Written 19 October 2023This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited October 2023Travelled with familyWritten 14 October 2023
- Sharon N1 contributionBrilliant afternoon on the Santa Special! We visited the Railway on Sunday 3rd December with our family and two grandchildren for a trip on the Santa Special to see Father Christmas. We had an excellent afternoon. The dedicated staff went to huge lengths to ensure we all were entertained and the setting was very good. The children loved the whole experience (as did the adults especially with the mulled wine) and the presents were of very good quality. Very good value for money and we felt we weee supporting a very worthy cause. We highly recommend a day out on this railway !Thank you, very much appreciated. I was on the train that day too, the rain did not spoil our fun and we loved entertaining the children. Santa also enjoyed meeting the passengers and children and said he will be coming back next week too! The whole journey was delightful, with staff coming to entertain all of us in our compartment while travelling between Princes Risborough & Chinnor. The grandchildren were able to eat their picnic lunch while completing activities they had been supplied with. Rain did not stop our journey to Princes Risborough and back on Mother’s Day. Cream tea was very nice. Service by volunteers was a pleasant experience. Very jovial staff. Shame a problem with the steam engine. Replaced by diesel.

Thank you, glad you had a good trip.
Sorry about the steam Train, it is a 100 years old and can be cantankerous, it was working just fine previously; but on the day it threw a wobbly. That's heritage stock for you.

Bought tickets for the winter warmer service for my mum and dad for Christmas because my mum loves steam trains. It didn't disappoint. It's such a pretty line and the staff were wonderful. At the Chinnor end we went though the light tunnel and got a complimentary coffe and mince pie, which was a lovely touch.
I got an email on Christmas eve to say that the steam train was being replaced by a diesel on my chosen day. Cue: panicked phone call to railway to ask if my booking could be moved. And it was without any problems.
I'd love to take my parents on the afternoon tea or fish and chip trains in the summer.

Thank you, glad it worked out.
Sadly we are short on Steam crew as the drivers are as old as the engine!
We are always looking for new volunteers to train up (Pun).
The Fish & Chip runs are a special and great fun, book nice and early to get your spot, they sell out quickly and we usually have a Quiz master on board too!

A really fabulous afternoon on this heritage railway which took us to the North Pole to see Father Christmas. Everything was perfect. The children had things to do on the train ride and when they got to see Father Christmas he was delightful and gave age appropriate presents. Then we had fab refreshments served by very happy volunteers. Get a ticket next year...you and your child will love it. Thank you to everyone who made this very special.

I took my family (3 grandparents, wife & 2 children) on the railway this December and we loved the whole experience. Right from the welcome at Princes Risborough Station, all of the staff were dressed up, with lots of energy and it set the right tone. On the train, there was lots of different activities (mainly led by the staff) that kept my children entertained.
When we arrived at Chinnor, there was a little wait (so that Father Christmas could see everyone) but that's to be expected at this time of the year! The music, lights and model railway kept the energy and mood high.
The journey back was slightly quicker, but with the high quality presents from the big man and enjoying the mince pies and drinks, the journey was nice and smooth all of the way back to Princes Risborough.
The fact that ALL of the Santa specials have sold out this winter is a clear testament that this is a worthwhile product and something that the community are getting behind to support.
Well done to everyone involved and keep up the really good work!

The North Pole Express is really fantastic- so well organised and our kids (3 and 5) loved it.
Father Christmas coming onto the train (as well as in the Grotto in Chinnor) was a big hit with the kids, elves were great and it was just a lovely afternoon trip. Amazing that they are all volunteers!
Brilliant job, perfect start to the Festive period.

Station Master
Chinnor, UK3 contributions
Yes
There are picnic tables at the end of the platform, or you can eat your picnic on the train, just clear up please.
We also have an area under the trees in the car park that makes a great location , bring a blanket or even more - there's an entire parkland area over the road complete with childrens play equipment.

Hello
Is the train dog friendly?

Michael H
London, UK2,030 contributions
Sarah,
Yes. This is from their site:
'Well behaved pet dogs are always made welcome and they TRAVEL FREE on daytime service trains in the non-dining sections of the trains. All we ask, please, is that you keep them on the floor or bring along a thick blanket for your pet to sit on. Please do consider other visitors and keep your dog on a short lead whilst on and about the station and on the train. Bowls of fresh drinking water are provided on the platform at Chinnor station and there is a pet-waste bin near the main entrance/exit.
Dogs are not however permitted in any areas where food is being consumed (Assistance Dogs excepted) and we ask you to respect the views of our other patrons please. If however you are reserving seats in the Luncheon Car or Afternoon Tea Cars and you also wish to bring your well behaved dog along, then it may be possible to arrange for one of our dog-friendly volunteer stewards to dog-sit during your meal. Please contact us via enquiries at Chinnor railway email address (see their website) to see how we may be able to help you.'

ChinnorPete has given some excellent information (thanks Pete) and you can see more on the website or General Enquiries (Daytime 10.00-17.00) on 07979 055366 are always very helpful. Worth mentioning that the few volunteers who have the appropriate skills are working very hard to restore the original 1906 platform at Princes Risborough, but that will be some months away. Then new track has to be laid to it and points put in so the locomotive can run-around its train. New volunteers always needed and without them, it may be some time before the work is completed!

Hello Michael, Thanks for your enquiry and just to say that the line extends almost to the outskirts of Princes Risborough, but goes no further at present. We are hoping that our trains will extend into that station in the not too distant future, but for the time being we are 3/4 mile from our goal. I hope that helps and if you would like to know something more then do call 07979 055366 or see our website please. Yours sincerely, Charles.
