We got here at abou 6:30 in the morning as all the guide books tell you to do. At the gate in bold letters it distinctly tells you not to go in before 9:00 as a visitor - Heed the warning people! The place is a health and safety nightmare, I can't tell you the number of times we almost... more

The Tsukiji Fish Market is easily accessible at the Tsukijishijo subway stop. My sister and I went with a guide and two other tourists and we started our tour of the outer and inner markets at at 4:00AM. I would highly suggest visiting with a guide as there are many subtleties of the market that would be overlooked if one... more

We arrived before 7am on a weekday morning. We found the outer larket easily, but with no directions followed our noses to stumble upon the iner market. I have to say I was terrified and it wasn't the most enjoyable experience for me. The motorised carts and small trucks speed around the market and its difficult to cross roads and... more

I was one of the enthusiastic overseas visitors to visit the Fish Market one morning at 7 o'clock. Sure it's big, lively, with the biggest tuna fish, crab etc and it's worth the visit..However, busy fishmongers there ride on "motor carts" where they zoom pass in front of you even though you are obviously crossing..people there are too busy trying... more

I visited the Tsukiji fish market on an early Saturday morning in November at about 6am in the morning. When I arrived some of the chaos was still going on both in and around the market. The market area itself was just okay. Living in Asia I guess I am a little spoiled with outdoor markets and to me this... more

I spent around four months living in Tokyo and eight months in Japan. I did lots of touring across the country and this place is probably the most exciting one of them all. I took the first train from Shibuya, which got me there at around 5:15 or 5:30 in the morning. By that time it was already too late... more

I visited the market the other day and chatted with one of the principals of a large nakaoroshi (middle wholesaler). Basically, the market has seen a huge increase in the number of visitors, particularly from overseas. The visitors were interfering in the morning auction process and generally getting in the way of the people whose livelihood depends on the morning... more

No kidding, this is the largest fish market on the planet. Seeing it from the boat to Odaiba is one thing, visiting it is another. It's actually much bigger than I thought; but since the Japanese thinks it's not large enough (for their appetite for sushi?), they'll relocate the market to another newly reclaimed area within 5 years, despite meeting... more

The experience was awesome and this was indeed the highlight of our trip to Japan. We caught the first train (Toei Oedo Line) to Tsukiji at about 5am. The station is a 5 minute walk from our hotel Keio Plaza and the journey is approximately 15 to 20 minutes. We alighted at Tsukiji-shijo station and the market is located just... more

I and my 2 brothers went to the Tsukiji Fish Market during March 2008 and we were dumbfounded by the variety of fishes there. There were all sorts of fish, huge ones, little ones, fat ones, thin ones, colorful ones... We also saw clams so large that we did not believed they even existed. There were also a wide variety... more
