I hadn't been planning on coming to the National Art Centre, but then I saw an ad in Ueno station for a Cezanne exhibition that's on at the moment (until 6 June). Then when I got there I found that there's also an exhibition on of 89 paintings from the State Hermitage Museum in St Petersburg (until 16 July). They're... More

A bit hidden from the Main Street in Roppongi, this massive buidling is worth a visit just to see the "space" inside the main lobby. Entrance fee was a bit high, prices for elderly, etc. and there is usually a visiting collection. I only entered to visit the gift shop and have a coffee. More

I thought it was funny how huge and overstaffed this place was for a gallery with no permanent collection. I saw a nice exhibit that happened to interest me, but if you're looking for a well rounded art collection there are better choices in Tokyo. Beautiful building, shame it doesn't get better used. This a good, modern museum and worthwhile visit for a particular exhibition. Entry fees vary depending on which exhibition is currently on display. Easy to get to from anyone of 3 subway lines. I used toei Oedo line and museum was 5 mins walk from nearest exit. There is a nice French style brasserie on the site which although I... More

For art lovers, this place may be good for a half-day trip or a few hours stay when you visit Tokyo. With collections on 20th century painting and modern art, this center was opened in 2007. For me, it still looked new. Great architecture, though one may feel too “cool” for the heavy use of metal, glasses, very high ceiling... More

If you're in a hurry in Tokyo and would rather go to other museums then you can skip this one BUT go there for the architecture and have a meal at the fantastic Paul Bocuse. After that, head over to your next destination. The first time I went to Tokyo I did the same thing. They also have an amazing... More

It is worth to visit the national art center just for seeing the exterior and the interior architecture of the building. amazing architecture..the exhibitions of local artists are usually for free. And the temporary foreign exhibitions are usually from artists with a famous international background. Last time in was there, Man Ray and impressionist Dutch painters were present. The area... More
