We went here in sept 2009, the gardens are really nice and all staff really friendly. There was an aircaft exibition on : http://aviation-art.homestead.com/ the day we were there so it was a real bonus. I would recomment you try visiting here in the afternoon as mornings can be too quiet and can feel eerie I have been told. Please... more

We recently came back from a six day trip to Tokyo, and made it a priority to check out the Meiji Jingu shrine on Sunday. There were no less than four wedding ceremonies performed while we were walking around the shrine grounds. It's a wonderful experience to see the wedding rituals performed and the wedding party dressed in traditional kimono.... more

Inner Garden of the Meiji Shrine is peaceful, quiet place detached from bustling Tokyo streets. 500 yen admission will be well-rewarded. Until Meiji Restoration this area had been the Daimyo Lord's residence and Kiyomasa's Well may be the only remainder of the Edo era garden. Like other gardens such as Koraku-en and Rikugien it is a typical stroll garden. Lots... more

If there is a place that can make you forget you are in a huge bustling city like Tokyo, walking towards this shrine is the place. You start walking into an area that is nicely wooded and gives you the impression that you are walking through some wilderness towards the shrine. The shrine itself was nice and is definitely worth... more

I went to the shrine twice during my visit as it was the most serene and pleasant place that i have been too. The place gives you a different feeling all together. Before u reach the entrance, there will be a tori entrance whereby the wood smells like sandalwood. the whole wood comes from one piece of wood. its amazing... more

If you can visit the Meiji Shrine on a Sunday morning you might get a chance to see a wonderful part of Japanese culture. I went on a Sunday in mid-May and it was alive with activity. There was a tea master’s ceremony going on, along with several traditional Japanese Shinto weddings. With all the excitement going on it is... more

What a fantastic place - quite the highlight of Tokyo, for me. The wooden temple itself is lovely - very impressive, and a remarkably peaceful place. The surrounding woods are very pleasant too, and the empress's stunning garden is a must-see. more

I visited the Meiji Shrine last week (around Nov. 18th) and was struck by the size & beauty of the grounds. Many meticulously groomed plants & trees line the winding walkway to the shrine itself & approaching the building was the most diverse display of chrysanthemums I've seen. I was lucky enough to witness a marriage ceremony & there were... more
