I'm not a fan of this type of art but I cannot deny that it is something which you might want to see as it is very characteristic. I found it super boring and left after a short time but it was something which you just "must" see if you're in Tokyo. More

Tokyo's red light district. Go for the booze, the girly or guy bars (usually Japanese customers only), the lights, the night life, the food and shopping are ok too but there are better places to do that in Tokyo. Remarkably safe for a red light area. This is the Tokyo you see on TV. More

We went for a walk in Kabuchiko in search of a guidebook-recommended yakitori restaurant that we never found, and instead saw some of the strangely comforting oddities of Japan instead. Kabuchiko is one of the red light zones of Tokyo, insofar as there's hostess bars on almost every block, along with the male version, which consists mostly of men with... More

Compared to many other large cities, the "seedyness" of this area of Tokyo is mild. I never felt unsafe or hassled, granted I was with three other people. I think it's good to explore the area to get a complete picture of the city! More

Shops, cafes, people-watching. You'll see many handsome young Japanese men standing around. Only after my trip did I find out that these men are actually professional escorts who will entertain ladies, sit down for a drink with them etc. Vibrant district. More

Lots to see and places to eat. In the evenings though, you do get hastled by the Nigerians trying to convince you to visit the girly bars......best avoided. There are many attraction for those interested in certain parts of the entertainment industry, but no decent bars to drink and chat. I'm not a great fan of Kabukicho.......the main plus point... It was lively and fun place to be at in any time, although we disliked the hangy foreign workes at there who tried (very very hard) to get us come to their shops.. More

This quarter in north-east Shinjuku is similar to Soho in London, UK. It has a wide variety of decent restaurants, bars, fast food shops, cinemas, karaoke boxes, bowling, sauna/spa capsules, as well as girly cabaret-clubs and host clubs. It is generally a safe place, and visually identifiable yakuzas won't bother you as long as you don't bother them. Actually, the... More

I ended up here as I got lost in Shinjuku. Compared to our red-light districts the place is safer, safe in a sense you can bring out your camera without worrying of being mugged, though I wouldn't like to be there because it in a red-light district..a part of it at least.. More
