Compared to many other large cities, the "seedyness" of this area of Tokyo is mild. I never felt unsafe or hassled, granted I was with three other people. I think it's good to explore the area to get a complete picture of the city! More

Shops, cafes, people-watching. You'll see many handsome young Japanese men standing around. Only after my trip did I find out that these men are actually professional escorts who will entertain ladies, sit down for a drink with them etc. Vibrant district. More

Lots to see and places to eat. In the evenings though, you do get hastled by the Nigerians trying to convince you to visit the girly bars......best avoided. This quarter in north-east Shinjuku is similar to Soho in London, UK. I ended up here as I got lost in Shinjuku. Compared to our red-light districts the place is safer, safe in a sense you can bring out your camera without worrying of being mugged, though I wouldn't like to be there because it in a red-light district..a part of it at least.. More
