Access: Toei Oedo subway to Ryogoku exit (main exit). The museum will be on your left exiting the station and is quite easy to find. One of Tokyo's best attractions -- an absolute must for history buffs. The life-size Nihombashi, theater and Ginza building are quite fun, as is the giant model of Edo. more

we had a great time here. the museum is huge and took us quite a while to get around everything - and that is in the limited english. If you can read japanese you would be in here for days! They have reconstructed many lifesize versions of houses and theatres etc as well as small diaramas. there are artifacts dating... more

I'm not a big museum-goer, but I've gone twice and would go back again. The museum is best appreciated after you've been in Tokyo for at least a couple of days, so you've begun to understand a little about the present-day city. The museum is very unique and has wonderful displays and reproductions. The headsets are pretty much a waste of time because they really only narrate what is already posted in English and the signal isn't so great, however they are free (you have to pay a deposit which you get back) so it couldn't hurt to try it.
