Its out the way but what a great experience. The snow monkeys ensured our families will never forget how amazing they are. We also enjoyed the area is and not ruined by souvenir shops. Well worth going.

Made a day trip from Tokyo on a beautiful sunny snow covered day. Nice hike from the bus stop that took about 45 minutes. Amazing to see the monkeys in this environment and wish I could have joined them in the hot spring. We visited mid week so very little crowds which made for a better experience. Excellent photo op...

Monkeys Monkeys Monkeys!!!!
We went here twice during the couple of days we were in Nagano. We went at the tail end of April so there was no snow in the monkey park. It was actually quite warm.
The monkeys seem to be in pairs and constantly grooming. We saw a couple of babies. One which the ranger told us...

Well worth the trek to get there, my friends mum is 81 and she really enjoyed it,We stayed in Nagano and caught a train, then a bus and then walked, but is was an enjoyable day, so glad we made the effort to get there. The hot chocolate at the info centre is yummy and the postcards really cute. Worth...

The Monkey park is quite a trek from Nozawa Onsen, where I was staying. It is cool to see Monkeys bathing, but whilst they are wild you only get to go to one small onsen pool and you don't need long there. I'd say it's worthing going if your near by, or if your really into Monkeys, but don't make...

Had a great time! Lots of monkey's all over the area. Some enjoy just sitting in the hot water while others actively swim. One kept chasing another and dunking him under the water. There were lots of babies at this time of year - they provided much entertainment as they chased each other and played wrestling games. The monkey's come...

Fab visit. Kids we were traveling with loved the place and getting right up close to the monkeys.
Some of the younger monkeys (simian, not human) might come exceptionally close, to the extent that they might try to open your bag etc, so be vigilant!
It's quite a hike for younger children to get up to the pools, but very...

The entire reason we decided to travel to Yudanaka was because of the snow monkeys. I could have spent a very long time just watching the little guys. Its especially good when they decide to go for onsen themselves.

It's a bit of a long haul to get to the 'snow monkeys', but they're worth it, even in a super- storm, up a mountain, in the worst single storm Japan had experienced since 1959! Train (as per title...) from Nagano, via Tokyo and Nagoya, then a bus halfway up a mountain, then a 30/40 minute hike through a snow...
