I want to go back already. This place was one of my bucket list items and it delivered on my expectations. Stunning scenery, amazing friendly locals and lots of activities. More

In May 2010, I went in Yakushima Island, especially to see the Loggerhead turtles ... I was amazed to see the difference between turtle protection between Nagata Beach (north of Yakushima) and Kurio Beach (South of Yakushima) ... In fact in Nagata everything was really well organized and controlled. The tourist cannot take pictures with prohibitions of flash and cannot... More

Yaku island is very special. Practically a perfect circle, this small island is home to about 10,000 people, 10,000 monkeys and over 1 million insects! 4 hours by ferry from the Japanese mainland, Yakushima is a popular destination for nature-lovers and hikers - Miyanoura-dake is the tallest point in southern Japan. Worth a visit for the onsen (hot spas), yakusugi... More

I have had the privilege of traveling around many countries and I would have to say that Yakushima has been one of the most memorable experiences I have ever had. It is an UNESCO World Heritage Site and is a haven for ancient Cedar trees (cryptomeria) called "yugi" (I think) and the entire place is saturated with the most intense... More

As soon as my friends and I arrived on Yakushima Island, we found ourselves stranded in a torrential downpour. Only through much begging on the telephone (with the help of a friend who spoke Japanese) were we able to get a minshuku host to come pick us up. The rain continued to plague us our entire visit. Perhaps we should... More

This is truely a wonderful island. Wild monkeys and deer roam freely, giant turtles lay their eggs on the golden beaches, a whole range of mountains on one small island with peaks up to 2000 m, famous old ceder forests with trees from 3000 to 7000 years old, thick sub-tropical rain forests, clear waters with tropical fish and home of...
