I saw all of Switzerland, it's regions, it's architecture and it's cultures by visiting Ballenberg. I spent a full, full day strolling through the open-air museum. Beautifully restored old buildings abound, set in areas that reflect all the regions of Switzerland they came from. History, lifestyles, crafts, cultures and food are nicely presented in with the houses and displays. I... More

My husband and I have previously visited Ballenberg to satisfy our architectural interest in different historical building styles--and absolutely loved it. The buildings cover hundreds of years in style and purpose; and include homes, barns, wine-making facilities, a black smith, etc. The amount of interior decoration varies by structure (some empty, some fully furnished) and domesticated animals are located throughout... Great day out. Spend the whole day here. Backpacks, walking shoes and bottle of water essential. Food and coffee is available at their restaurant, but is expensive. We took packed lunch and picnicked. An amazing sense of the history of how early Swiss people lived. More

we visited the ballenberg in april last year, it was a great day out. It is place to present the living history and culture hundreds years back. There were many houses from all parts of switzerland, 'residence' dressed up in traditonal swiss costume, lots of farm animals like sheeps, cows, pig etc to get close up pictures, and we can... More

Family pass is a decent deal (CHF 50). A nice outing for the family. I would not recommend for non family outings. Restaurants are pretty decent. Plenty of free parking More

I've seen quite a few outdoor historical museums across Europe and Northamerica and this one is probably my favourite. It's set in a large area with beautiful views of the Swiss Alps. The historical buildings represent a range of regions and different time periods of Swiss history. Moreover, this historical village does come alive through the engaging demonstrations and activities... More

This is a must-visit attraction near Interlaken...... and the best part is, it is free with the Swiss Pass. You have to travel to Brienz by rail or boat and then follows a scenic bus ride right up to Ballenberg. At least 3-4 hours are required to do justice to this open air museum, showcasing Swiss lifestyle across time and... More

We went to the Ballenberg Museum the second or third time and again it was great. Specially for families it is really nice. You could go back in history and have a look into the old farmers buildings as well as in other old houses. You also get kind of an idea how things worked many years before without internet... More

We had a wonderful day at Ballenberg in June this year, walked for miles through the 160 acre park looking at the old traditional style farmhouses from the various regions of Switzerland which have been rebuilt here. Everything is very well done and authentic you really do feel as if you had stepped back into another era. It was amazing... More

This outdoor village is filled with authentic Swiss houses and 19th century barns, farm houses, lovely old chalets, gardens, farm animals, old handicrafts and trades demonstrated. There are over 60 acres of things to see so you need a couple of days to cover all the regions. A great family place!! More
