Great day out. Spend the whole day here. Backpacks, walking shoes and bottle of water essential. Food and coffee is available at their restaurant, but is expensive. We took packed lunch and picnicked. An amazing sense of the history of how early Swiss people lived. More

This is a must-visit attraction near Interlaken...... and the best part is, it is free with the Swiss Pass. You have to travel to Brienz by rail or boat and then follows a scenic bus ride right up to Ballenberg. We had a wonderful day at Ballenberg in June this year, walked for miles through the 160 acre park looking at the old traditional style farmhouses from the various regions of Switzerland which have been rebuilt here. This outdoor village is filled with authentic Swiss houses and 19th century barns, farm houses, lovely old chalets, gardens, farm animals, old handicrafts and trades demonstrated. There are over 60 acres of things to see so you need a couple of days to cover all the regions. A great family place!! More
