If you avoid the guided tours and take public transport (or, if you are well-heeled, your own private guided tour) this is an absolutely wonderful destination. Ping An village is set amid the rice terraces and is not accessible to traffic so you have to walk up the hill (about 20 mins) to get there. There are porters who will... more

After leaving Yangshuo we spent one night at Chenyang - Wind and Rain Bridge and the next night at Pingan Village. We only carried a small backpack up to the village left our big bags in the car. I was determined to carry my own luggage and not access the chairs carried by the porters- was very pleased to reach... more

When we were planning our trip to China, I read the reviews on Tripadvisor and kept seeing Lilly Lu's name, so I e-mailed her. With less than 3 days in the area, I couldn't imagine that we would see so much. Lilly met us at the Guilin airport and took us up to the Longji rice terraces. In the rain,... more

This was a highlight of our stay in the Guilin area. Reading other reviews it seems it might depend on which tour you get - ours was really quite good, with all costs included (yes, including the Long Hair ladies and a decent lunch prior to the last assault on the steps!). The tour bus was small, which meant we... more

The terraces are every bit as awe-inspiring as I had imagined they would be, and certainly worth the trip to Guilin. However, under no circumstances should you take the stupid guided tour. We only had one day to see the terraces and were worried that we would not make it back in time to catch a train that night, so... more

We took a tour from Yangshuo which turned into the most irritating day we spent in China. The tour starts at 7.30ish but you spend half an hour travelling around hotels picking up people. The drive then took another 2 to 2 1/2 hours to get to the terraces. But, you don't get taken to the terraces. Instead you are... more

We were just in Guilin/Yangshuo/Longsheng for 5 days, and loved the area. We had a wonderful day trip with a guide to the Long Ji Rice Terrace. It is stunningly beautiful, and the walk up the stairs is worth every step. The houses and structures are also intriguing. It is a somewhat isolated area, and the rice harvest is done... more

We visited the RIce Terraces during Golden Week which is probably the busiest time of the year! Nonwithstanding all the company it was a wonderful day. Our guide, Lilly Lu, is very familiar with the area and shared much history and insight with us. She was also a great cheerleader the few times we started to falter in our will... more

It was well worth our time to travel from Guilin to see the Long Ji rice terraces. The drive out was beautiful, and we were able to see a lot of countryside, and interesting small towns. The terraces themselves were amazing. The walk up was a bit steep in places, but not a hard climb if one took it slow.... more
