For all who are nature lovers - this is an ideal place. Quiet, charming, full of beautiful plants with a lake with swans. It looks very romantic and I felt like going back into XVIII century, when ladies were walking gracefully in the garden full of flowers, protecting themselves from the sun with little umbrellas :) Magic! A lovely place for a walk. Would benefit from providing a large open area near parking and picnic area for kids to play. With daffodils everywhere in spring its difficult for kids to play without the constant nagging from adults to keep off the flowers. More

I've been going here for years....and will continue doing so. It looks different depending on the time of year you visit. One month you might see carpets of daffodils; another month there will be carpets of bluebells. Well worth the short detour. More

This garden was the life work of an amazing woman who left it to the State, it is natural yet still a garden. Bring a picnic - no dogs - and enjoy one of the most special gardens in the country More

The gardens here are pretty, with some nice walkways and some really interesting trees. However there's not much to do here beside look at plants. More

I've been to these gardens at different times of the year and they're always lovely. Spring, when the daffodils are out is especially nice. Lovely walks through the grounds and by the river. More

Altamont was truly a surprise to find. Just south of Tullow in County Carlow, the turn does come up a bit fast, and the road down to it does make you wonder if you've gone the wrong way, but it's worth it to find the garden itself. Entry to the garden is free, but it's the garden that gives. Over... More

Oh my gosh. How did I not know about this beautiful place all those years when I took tours of friends around Ireland? It has short and long walk options. A lake stocked with swans and ducks. Manicured lawns. Tree species diverse enough to rival Fota Arboretum. A beautiful old house that, though it looks as in need of urgent... More
