Unfortunately pouring rain. The stadium must have had great atmosphere during contests and events. Temple and Amphitheatre with marvellous backdrop. Great collonades - magestic in its day. More

As you approach the village you may pass through the monumental Arcadian Gate. If you don't arrive that way, do go and find it. The fallen enormous lintel has a Crusader Cross graffitti on top of it. Ancient Messini is not on many tourists' radar, but if you're driving around the Peloponnese, put it on your list. You won't be disappointed (except by the museum). Bring lots of sunscreen and water and enjoy. This may be the most extensive ruins in Greece. We were really impressed. It is mostly Roman, though. The explanatory signage is not so good. You can wander right through almost everything with no fencing-off like most other sites. Archeologists are still working on the site. More

It's only half an hour away from Kalamata. An old road drives you to this wonderful site full of ancient monuments which are well preserved and an ancient stadium which takes your breath away...Take a pair of comfortable shoes and dive in an amazing trip in history.It's free but there isn't a canteen.Then visit the museum or visit the local...
