We spent almost a full day in Baisha. Be sure to go with a guide who knows the streets and alleyways. It's absolutely fascinating to see the Naxi people going about their day-to-day activities. Be sure to get some fried cheese and yak meet for lunch!

Baisha is, so we were told, the oldest town in Yunnan. And it looks like it! The old buildings present an interesting backdrop to a stroll through the town. It looks like a typical old Chinese village until you step behind the walls and enter the courtyards.

Most people visit this ancient town for the BaiSha Mural. The town itself is a disappointment and we biked here from Lijiang, about 10 km away - no small feat with young children and it was with a slight elevation of 100 m . Don't expect too much beyond the strip of cafes and antique sellers near the temple, as this place is lovely countryside with local people, miles away from touristy Lijiang.
Wander out into the fields and view the snow mountain.
