Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Great history about the building, unfortunately it will cost €4 pp and it doesn’t worth the time and money due to the poor state of conservation of the different buildings ( most of it in ruins) that aren’t preserved.

We had a tourist map in the main square after getting off the land train and the route was sketchy. The route is very steep and we had no drinks with us which was a mistake in the heat. It probably took about 30 minutes walk to get there, no signs to help.

It is 4 euros each but if you can prove you are 65 + it’s 2 euros. They don’t sell water/drinks so missing an opportunity there. I asked how long the visit would take and was told approximately 40 minutes. When you enter there are no signs but you can save wasting time and just turn left as this is where the ruins are. There is only 2 part standing buildings the rest is rubble. The best view point is also to the left and panoramic so good photos.

We came out and asked where to get a drink and the village is just a 2 min walk away with several cafe bars and ice cream shop.

Overall it is doubtful you will undertake such a walk and not go into the castle ruins but it’s nothing spectacular.

Difficult and dangerous road to reach it. No signs how to go or return. Very tiny parking spot.
Generally from the entrance and all the area inside was very unorganized with no signs were to go, just a huge complicated map. No paths inside.
The only positive was the shadow of the trees.
Very sad to see such a place in that condition.
We didnt make it to see it all

Early evening on Wednesday 22th July and we visited Bochali Viewpoint and this old castle is nearby.

It is possible to drive the short distance to the castle or take the walking route up a steep hill.

We did hear conflicting information about opening times, one source advised, closed due to COVID, someone else said open all day.

We took pot luck and walked up to the Castle, known as the Venetian Castle or Bochali Castle, which was shut.

The opening hours are from 08.30 to 16.00, except Tuesdays and Sundays with an entrance fee of €4.

When we visited it was outside opening hours.
The external part of the castle that we were able to see, the mighty walls were rather impressive.

The Castle is a contributing factor to making a visit to the Viewpoint worthwhile.

We walked from Zante town, I’d recommend either taking the land train or going by car. However if you fancy a hilly walk it is possible.

On entry it costs €4. Not many castle ruins however it does offer spectacular views of Zante Town and the surrounding area.

Recommend good shoes due to the amount of pine needles and twigs on the floor. Lots and lots of trees. You do have to have a good walk to discover all of the ruins.

I’d recommend it if your into walking and history.

It would have been nice to receive a map and some information.

A nice walk up the hill, a bit steep but solid road all the way up, then the reward the vieuw and it is quiet under the old pine trees.

Just a photo can prove why it is a lovely place to go. One of the landmarks that you should go in Zakynthos.

The road up to the 'castle' is incredibly steep, narrow and twisty - if you're driving choose the route that the satnav says is 2 minutes longer! Reasonable admission of €4 each. I would describe it more as a beautiful and peaceful forest with ruined walls rather than a castle as such, the few information boards are very basic and don't tell you anything and make sure you ignore the two areas on the maps marked 'Refreshments' and 'Rest Rooms'!!!!
It is very steep and uneven in places and definitely not suitable for people with mobility difficulties or trying to use a pushchair.
Saying all that, there are some breathtaking views from the walls and you get a stunning view over the harbour and airport. I would say if you are reasonably fit then it's a great value 2 or 3 hours out, more if you take a picnic. It is a quiet pine forest with a few benches to take a breather.
Was very frustrated having trudged to the highest point of the site to find that the cafe has obviously been closed for quite some time, as had the toilets which were half way down the hill so they really need to make both of these known at the entrance I think.
