Earthquake damage has been repaired, but occasionally in mid summer to protect the falcons nesting on the side of the cliffs, call or check online before planning your trip. One of those lifetime experiences that you will never forget. Not for those afraid of heights, or those who might have trouble climbing up ladders. Not advised for unsupervised small children... more

This is a straight vertical climb up a granite face of a mountain. Spectacular views from the top and worth every second. I'm in very good physical shape and used to frequent hiking, but I found this challenging due to the fear factor (I also have a healthy fear of heights - well, not of the heights - but of... more

Before starting there is a bright yellow warning sign basically outlining the dangers of this trail. It clearly says that you should be in good shape and that this is not maintained as a trail but as a "non-technical climbing route" That being said, if you are in decent shape and have the prober footwear this is a very doable... more

A group of us went to Acadia NP with nothing but hiking on our minds. Every year we pick a national park to explore that we have not been to before, and spend most of our time hiking. In Acadia, we started with the Ocean Path hike (easy and worth it), and then decided to hike the Precipice Trail. We... more

I hiked Precipice Trail on a recent trip to Acadia. It has been closed for the past couple years due to earthquake damage, but has now been reopened. The trail is only 0.8 miles, but don't let that fool you. It is not a leisurely 0.8 miles. Proper footwear and clothing needs to be worn. The majority of the trail... more

Ok first off this should not be considered a trail. This was the most insane "Thing" I have ever done. We had climbed a number of trails that day and in the past and none were as scary and death defying as this one. Their is no going back when you start and it definately is not for the faint... more

What a climb! really cool to traverse up the side of a cliff literally. 1053 feet up and I do mean up. Once you start there is no going back. If you have a fear of heights this isn't for you. Defintely something to do at least once in a lifetime. don't carry alot because you do need your hands... more

It starts off steep but not too scary. Then, before you know you reach the point of no return...at least not the way you want to return. Going back down the same way would be more dangerous than going to the top. Plenty of hand rails, ladders and bars to hold on too. It is probably much safer than it... more

10 out of 10 for any half way in shape dayhikers out there. No real rockclimbing involved (scrambling over some rocks and iron rung ladders in a couple of spots though). Takes about 2 and a half hours round trip if you take your time (45 mins to an hour for the climb up to the top & all down... more

This is a seriously difficult route that is a cross between a hiking trail and a rock climb. Do not attempt this trail if you are out of shape, afraid of heights, or don't like climbing ladders. Once the trail gets hard, there are very few places to stop safely, and there is no way to go down except by... more
