We took the Sage Creek Rim Road after reading a review about seeing buffalo. We did see buffalo on this road, but what we weren't expecting was that the road is basically a gravel road. We saw thinks we might not have otherwise seen in the park, so we'd definitely do it again. More

Th etoru costs $15 a car and the drive is about 30 miles long but the drive is beautiful and so scenic. There is plenty to do all day if you care to or just take on drive along roadway between interstate ramps. More

At the west end of the loop road as it heads north to the Interstate there's a great road you may consider taking: Sage Creek Rim Road. This is not paved and as such you may want to consider weather conditions ... if it is dry this is a great drive (albeit maybe as much as 30 miles) to get... More

The smooth and compacted gravel and dirt road is an easy drive and no risk in dry weather, even for the most citified of cars. I have the impression that it gets graded regular, and it was in excellent repair when I was there. Plus, the views off the rim into the Badlands below are incomparable, even to the views... More

Take a detour off of the Loop Road to see a variety of wildlife. We took the gravel road around from the loop road and then caught up with the main road back to Wall. We saw Bighorn Sheep, Bison, Prairie Dogs, Pronghorns, and many birds. Try to hit this road around dawn or dusk for the most animal movements.... More

The road is gravel, but easy enough to drive on for any vehicle. Unless it's raining, in which case I've heard it can be a muddy mess. We drove the road early in the morning, and spotted lots of wildlife: bison, bighorn sheep, pronghorn, deer, birds, a dead rattlesnake in the road, and, of course, prairie dogs. It's so peaceful...
