In opposition to those folks recommending flying..traveling by boat is the better travel method. You get a true feel for the isolation of Fort Jefferson. And to see those stone walls rise out of the endless turquoise sea is breath taking. One wonders "why a Fort here"? And can you imagine being imprisoned? Or being poor Dr Mudd, whose only... More

My sister and I took the Yankee Freedom catamaran from Key West to the Dry Tortugas. It is a 2-1/2 hr ride and the boat made me and others a little queezy. We got breakfast and lunch on board which was a plus. The Fort was amazing because it was built on an island 70 miles from Key West. Imagine... More

Took charter plane to Dry Tortugas National Park, FL. Flight was quick and enjoyable compared to others who took ferry which was way too time consuming. You can take guided tour or self explore. There is great snorkeling around the fort you just must be aware of currents and dangers in any body of water. Lay on beach and lounge... More

I absolutely enjoyed Fort Jefferson and the Dry Tortugas National Park. You can get there by boat (Which ends up tying up most of the day) or you can go there by sea plane. I HIGHLY recommend the sea plane. It's a 4 hour trip, and only about a 40 minute flight, so you end up with a little over... More

Who would think you'd find a fort out in the middle of the ocean? We didn't. I have to be honest and say I didn't even know it exisited until I saw a brochure while we were in Key West. And then I didn't realize you had to take a 2 1/2 hour boat ride to get there. BUT... it... More

The trip to the dry tortugas is highly worth it. The boat ride is2.5 hours long. Once you're there the island is an adventure. Great snorkeling, awesome history. The boat provides a nice lunch and breakfast. We would love to come back to camp (very primitive and you must be self sufficient), or take a private charter to have access... More

We just experienced something spectacular out in the middle of the Gulf Coast. We visited Key West in April and signed up for a 2-1/2 hour, 70-mile voyage out to the Dry Tortugas in Garden Key. Fort Jefferson, built in 1846, lies In the midst of all of the beautiful water and is on an 100-acre island. The ride out... More

I had been to the Keys three times prior to our recent visit 13 years ago. I found out about Fort Jefferson and Dry Tortugas Island at that time. I didn’t have the money to make the trip then but made it a must do next time I visited. Fortunately it didn’t take a life time for me to get... More

Visiting Dry Tortugas National park during our vacation in the Keys was absolutely wonderful. The Fort is very interesting to tour and it is beautiful. You can climb on every floor of the fort, including th roof which has some amazing views. Also, because the only ways to get there are by sea plane or by the Yankee Freedom ferry,... More

The ferry trip out to Dry Tortugas is great on a calm day. We saw many birds including Northern Gannets and Magnificent Frigatebirds. Near Dry Tortugas we passed an island with nesting Masked Boobies, but too far to see without good binoculars. The fort itself was interesting and the fare on the ferry included a short tour. Lunch is served... More
