My mate and I hiked down the Kaibab and back up the Bright Angel Trail in early September.Without trivialising this hike it was very hard on my knees and I was exhausted when we returned to the rim, however it took us 2 1/4 hrs down and 3 1/2 hrs back up.Admittedly we did not stop on the way down except... more

In mid-August I hiked about 1 mile down this trail to Ooh-Aah point. The trails were well-maintained and the hike wasn't too hard for a beginner like me. The views from down inside of the canyon made it totally worth it! We started the hike pretty early and the weather was nice and cool and the trail was pretty empty.... more

i have just completed the South Kaibib to Phantom ranch and back up bright angel trail this past weekend. We left at 12pm in late august with the temp at around 90f on the rim and about 100f at cedar ridge. the views were indescribably beautiful and the trail was steep, but not as bad as i expected, especially if... more

Hiked the South Kaibab to the river and back with my husband in May. The trail is a must. The views were spectacular and if you plan on going to the river you can get away from the crowds. We hiked back to rim on the South Kaibab as well, and by noon it gets extremely hot along the trail.... more

OK, Tripadvisor has been so good to me, helping me plan so many vacations, that I'll give some advice on the 1 day rim to floor and back Grand Canyon Hike. 1) It's do-able, but is REALLY hard. My girlfriend and I are in our early thirties and fit, but not super fit. We started at 5:30am, went down the... more

My wife and I hiked on the South Kaibab Trail in early March. The weather was great--cool when the wind was blowing but not too cold. This trail was great--we hiked 1.5 miles (took almost an hour) down to Cedar Ridge, where we had a picnic and relaxed, enjoying the great views. It was a much harder trek coming back... more

Excellent hike - we set off around 6:30/7:00am from the top of South Kaibab Trail - the bus took us there from Mather Campsite. The South Kaibab Trail is stunning and we took our time walking down knowing we were crossing over onto Tonto. Tonto Trail is well signposted - look for it on the left hand side as you... more

I have done this hike to the bottom twice and it just gets better. You will be blown away at the grandeur and beauty of the GC. The South Kaibab Trail is on a ridgeline so the views are spectacular! Their is no water and only 1 toilet so be prepared. They suggest not to do this hike to the... more

For the average hiker or person - it doesn't get any better than the South Kaibab trail. If you are willing to hike down a mile and a half, you will enjoy excellent vistas of the Grand Canyon. Much, much better than the Bright Angel trail, which is a bit boxed in. Take the free shuttle east to the trail... more

Feb 27,2008 We hiked down and stayed 1 night at Phantom Ranch then up the Bright Angel-said we'd never do it again because very difficult but now we are going again-felt we didn't get enough time to see the bottom. We are all late 50s age and did not do it in any record time but we got down and up... more
