This is the busier side of the canyon and can be quite full of tourists in season...Even in May, there were lots of people, but the views and the shuttle service make it the place to be. Enjoy the beauty, the condors, and watch the people watching the canyon. The reactions of the people around you tell it all!

If you only have a day, the South rim is the place to go. Go to the main village and walk along the rim, then drive east and hit the overlooks.
