So, first and foremost, you have to decide what you are looking for in an experience in the smokies. The pros: it is easily accessible by road, the "trail" to the top is paved, short (1/2 mile), and accessible to all (including children probably over 5 and the elderly), and it has a nice view (some of the time). The... More

This is a view that can't be beat if you really want to get the best view of the Smokies. We were lucky enough to be there on a very clear day, and, as the song says, could "see forever." Absolutely fabulous. Be prepared for a 1/2 mile walk up an extremely steep hill. (Somehow, it seems longer than that!)... More

To get to Clingman's Dome, you drive a curvy road. When at the top, you park. There are lots of nice views from the parking lot but the best are from the dome. You must walk to the top of it. It's a fair little trek but the air is thin so it could be dangerous for some people with... More

Make sure the road is open first! It does close for the winter and weather. Long steep hike up in very thin air. It is paved but very thin air. Weather is very different up here. We have gone in shorts and ended up playing in the snow up on top! Usually foggy when we go and very thick. Always... More

My husband and I were completely wowed by Clingman's Dome! It's easy to find -- turn onto Clingman's Dome Road from 441 (Newfound Gap Road) in the National Park. It's a gorgeous 7 mile winding drive and the parking lot is quite large. You'll find restrooms (just pit toilets, but better than going in the woods!) and a small store.... More

Before entering the park, I stopped at the visitor center to ask a Park Ranger of must see locations for a person like me who was simply driving through. As much as I like spending more time in National Parks, I was unable to on this particular trip. I arrived in late afternoon and the ranger suggested I get to... More

Tough walk for out-of-shape fellow! The views along the way and at top were beautiful. More

Definitely worth the hike up even on a cloudy day. Be prepared for the walk though. Its a little steep but not very long. Enjoy! :-) More
