So, first and foremost, you have to decide what you are looking for in an experience in the smokies.
The pros: it is easily accessible by road, the "trail" to the top is paved, short (1/2 mile), and accessible to all (including children probably over 5 and the elderly), and it has a nice view (some of the time).

This is a view that can't be beat if you really want to get the best view of the Smokies. We were lucky enough to be there on a very clear day, and, as the song says, could "see forever." Absolutely fabulous. Be prepared for a 1/2 mile walk up an extremely steep hill. (Somehow, it seems longer than that!)...

Before entering the park, I stopped at the visitor center to ask a Park Ranger of must see locations for a person like me who was simply driving through. As much as I like spending more time in National Parks, I was unable to on this particular trip. I arrived in late afternoon and the ranger suggested I get to...

Tough walk for out-of-shape fellow! The views along the way and at top were beautiful.

When the weather is nice the view from the observation tower is great!

Definitely worth the hike up even on a cloudy day. Be prepared for the walk though. Its a little steep but not very long. Enjoy! :-)
