Mount Sterling truly provides one of the best views anywhere in the Smokies! A large, steel fire tower stands atop this 5,842-foot peak, offering a complete 360 degree view of the eastern side of the park as well as to the surrounding national forest. fire tower, great views from tower. excellent tent sites. long way down to good water. Baxter Creek trail very steep. Bear got my food out of tree here one night. more
