Beautiful hike (we did the moderately strenuous via Alum Cave up and the moderately easy Trillium Gap down) and the views are amazing. The hike round trip was nearly 12 miles, so it's not appropriate for someone looking for an easy stroll. Stayed at LeConte lodge and loved the experience, but the food was horrible. Having hiked LeConte on the 1st Week of April of each year for some time I have used Alum, Trillium, Rainbow, The Boulevard and Bullhead Trails. I have experienced hiking it in 11 degree weather on frozen trail, and in 30 degree weather on 12-24" of new fallen snow. This year started very pleasant with 45 degree weather at the... more

My wife and I journeyed to the top of Mt. LeConte in early April of 2004. The weather for that time of year was beyond perfect. Temps at the top around 55 degrees and not a cloud in the sky. Went up Alum Cave Bluff trail and it was a very nice. Past the cave area it was alittle rugged... more

I took the Alum Cave Trail up the mountain to the lodge on May 6, 2004. Be forewarned this is not an easy 5 mile hike but well worth it when you arrive at the top. I am 55 years old and in above average condition, exercise 5-6 times a week. The change in altitiude had something to do with... more

Well, this was the second time that i had been to LeConte, and it was by far the best! Unreal views, nice lodge at the top. Allow a good eight hours to hike and to view the park. Bring water, and start early! more
