Leave early enough on your trip to Hana to be here for a nice picnic lunch spot, it's best after rains and can be unimpressive during dry periods More

we loved our experience there. our timing was lucky... the crazy rains/storms of march 2012 had been going on for about a week so the falls were LARGE and there were only 2 other visitors there (that we barely saw). so the scenery was impressive and the crowds were non-existent. i've read that (in general) early morning is your best... The scene is nice, and the trail is short, if you are not a big fan of hiking, you may consider this trail instead. More

The Ohe'o Gulch has a few issues that could spoil your visit. First of all, the national park often closes the swimming area due to heavy water flows. We arrived at 9:00 AM to try to beat the crowds and were lucky that the pools were open (the decision to open them was made right as we arrived - they... More

This made the Road to Hana worth it. The pools and the falls were fantastic to see. More

I had thought swimming in rainforest pools would be warmish - maybe 70 degrees, like the ocean. The water temperature was more like low 60s. If you plan to go swimming after a hike - say, to Waimoku Falls - then the water is perfectly refreshing. I'm not the type to be able to just jump into cold water, so... More

We drove to the national park on January 4th. Within the park you can visit Oheo Gulch and hike on the Pipiwai Trail. The Oheo Gulch was really crowded. I had my wife and two teenage daughters and felt that we were bumping into people trying to get photos. There were people swimming in some of the pools. We didn't... More

the drive, spectacular.. scary, but spectacular the pools were incredible; we went in the dry season so couldn't swim under the 400 ft waterfall, but we showered in it and it made for some great photo opps. bamboo forest, and the banyan tree were also very cool. the hike was a great mixture of strenuous and relaxing; tons of great... If you've driven the road from Hana you are going to be disappointed when you get here. The sacred pools are sort-of Ok but the rest of the trail is over-rated. If you really want to do this I would take the road that your rental car map says that you are not allowed to take and approach from the... More
