We arrived at Olympic National Park in mid-July and set up camp at Heart of the Hills campground, the closest campground to Hurricane Ridge. On the morning of our first full day, we drove up to Hurricane Ridge to have a picnic breakfast and what a view! It was sunny, clear, warm and you could see Mt. Carrie, Mt. Olympus,... more

The drive to Hurricane Ridge in ONP was delightful. On a beautiful warm, sunny day in mid-September, we started from Port Angeles in summer sandals and light-weight clothes. We climbed up the 17-mile road that snakes up from Pugent Sound to a mile above sea-level. As we ascended, we added additional layers of clothes at turnouts before we snapped photos.... more

The day we went to Hurricane Ridge it was very foggy, so we were not able to have the spectacular view we had heard so much. However, the drive up there was just lovely. Driving through the trees and fog was just beautiful. Once on top of the Ridge we saw several deer grazing and beautiful wildflowers. Definitely worth the... more

It was hard to pull ourselves away from the view on Hurricane Ridge. Words -- and pictures for that matter -- can't do the view justice. It was simply majestic. It really puts our place in this crazy world into perspective. more

In every national park, I feel there should be something unique and awesome, and Olympic meets that criterion in a couple places, including on the Hurricane Hill trail at Hurricane Ridge. This trail takes one above all the intervening scenery, to a point where there is a 210 degree view of unobstructed snow-capped mountains. This is well worth the hike,... more

In our Northwest sampler of mountains, forest and sea, my favorite was our day to visit ONP's most accessible mountain area, Hurricane Ridge, 17 miles up a winding paved road from Port Angeles. Frequent turnouts with breathtaking views of glaciers and the mountain range, as well as the glimmering waters of the Strait of Juan de Fuca, allow for photo... more

While driving up to Hurricane Ridge, we passed our fair share of Black-tailed deer and ruffed grouse - both of a rich chololate brown color that was accented by the greens of mosses and grasses that they fed upon. Toward the end of our drive, we rounding a bend in the road and came upon a fog bank that we... more
