The very nice ranger at the visitor center recommended we take Old Fall River Road up to the Alpine Visitor Center so we would have something else to see rather than taking Trail Ridge Road in both directions. When we told him we were driving a tiny little rental car he told us we should have no problem. However, most... more

DO NOT get on this road if you are driving an RV, are afraid of heights, not an experienced driver. parts of the road are missing. especially at the top. bumpy ride with the possibility of falling off the drop. I was so scared I could not look at the views, which I am sure are beautiful, and I was... more

Old Fall River Road is a one-lane, one-way dirt road that winds its way up the mountains, switchback after switchback. It is closed most of the year due to snowfall high in the mountains, but if you're lucky enough to be there in July or August, you can take this drive. There are many places where the dropoff at the... more

Just got back and agree with all previous posters. If you've been to Colorado or other mountain locales and have done some driving in mountain areas you won't be overwhelmed. That said, my kids and I have been 'around' but we enjoyed it. If nothing else, good not to have to do out and back on Trail Ridge Road. My... more

Old Fall River Road is a nice fun drive - to really enjoy it you need to stop and look around. If you just drive up it and look around you miss some of the good stuff. Chasm falls is amazing... park at the bottom and climb up along side the falls. There is a pamphlet upon entering that gives... more

Make the time to drive Old Fall River Road for a different scenic way to see the park. We were here for 2 days, so it wasn't a problem getting this in our agenda. It's more of an intimate way to see the park, when compared to the busy Trail Ridge Road. This is a good dirt road that is... more

A great winter hike. Bring snow shoes and or boot chains. Extremely peaceful and the slow walking pace gives you time to notice the beauty that surrounds you. more

We drove the road because of the reviews here but were totally disappointed. The road ascends for 3 paved and then 9 unpaved miles to Alpine Visitor Center, which can also be reached by the main road. The unpaved part is quite easy to drive and was no challenge for our Chevy Impala. The problem is that the view along... more

A terrific detour off of Trail Ridge Road. Jeep Grand Cherokee and a mini van had no problems on the road. There are restrictions - Max 25' vehicle, no trailers, etc. Open only after the snow melt, often not until July. It was one of the most beautiful driving trails I've ever taken in my Jeep and one I try... more

Since my family has moved to Denver a few months ago, we have traveled several places in the mountains, and the Estes Park area is one that we keep going back to. Old Fall River Road is probably the BEST scenic route that we have been on in the Rocky Mountains. The scene was breathtaking, and the serenity of the... more
